“Great Break away!”

We went to the Lodge in August for a long weekend in Devon. The weather was beautiful and when we arrived at the hotel we where shown to our room. We where in room 9, on the top floor. It was huge, and for £45 we could have slept 6 people in there, with en-suite and sky tv, that is a bargain in any way you look at it, especially in high summer.

The entire hotel was clean and smelt lovely, the lounge area was great, theres a games room bit, big sofas and the courtyard garden is great for catching some rays. Salcombe, Hope Cove and Kingsbridge are all nearby and have amazing beaches.

We will be coming back here next year! Save me room 9!! :o)

Room Tip: Book room 9 if you can, but my parents stayed a couple of weeks later in a double room (7 i think) a...

“Fantastic Hotel - very helpful and friendly manager”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 March 2011

We stayed as 2 families in the cottage. Very homely and clean. Can't beat it with 5 kids running around. Very modern and useable kitchen. Hot showers all around. All the furniture seem new. Mark said that he has done up the cottage just this year. Having our own kitchen meant we could snack all day long and get drinks whenever we needed.

Ate in the hotel restaurant. Very good menu and good sized portion. A few other guests around, but no-one minded the noise generated by our kids. Restaurant very clean and modern. No chintz !

The manager recommended several restaurants and places to go for us. He even called ahead and reserved tables for us. We did have a couple of restaurants in mind, and he correctly suggested that they were a bit 'too grown up' and not children-friendly. (he was right!)

Overall, I loved this hotel. Really clean and functional. Great value-for-money. Very helpful manager and staff.

BTW Yes we could only have a full english breakfast, but it was superb !

“A fry up or nothing for breakfast”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 November 2010

We booked two nights but left after the first. When we first arrived the man assumed we were someone else that he had been speaking to on the phone and even argued with us when we said who we were. The room was comfortable enough but the en-suite was a bit poky. In the night there was a fracas in the garden which went on for over an hour with drunken shouting and swearing. The management failed to control it and should have called the police but didn't. Breakfast was the worst part. The waiter could only manage one thing at a time and it took 10 minutes to take our order whilst the other guests had to sit and wait their turn. There was no menu as they only served only "Full English" or toast. We were told they could not provide continental they get too much wastage. Other guests were complaining that their food was not cooked properly and the chef just argued with them saying that he had put it under the grill for the usual length of time so it must be all OK. He just would not accept that the sausages were not cooked in the middle. As we left, the cleaner was spraying a pile of towels with some clear liquid; I just hope that wasn't in lieu of washing them. You might think we stayed elsewhere if you read the other reviews but I can only speak as I find and won't be giving it a second chance.

“My son had joined me from Canada to celebrate my 80th and it had to be something special - and it was”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2010

The hotel is an ideal base to enjoy the South Devon area. The accomodation is clean, bright, and very comfortable. The Staff ( especially mine host) treated us like family in the best possible way. The food was extemely good; we had planed to eat out for some evening meals, but we enjoyed the food and company that much that we dined in.
