I have titled this review "don't bother" as nobody at this establishment seemed bothered whether my wife and I had a pleasant eating experience when we visited. We stayed for a few days in a lovely cottage in the area, and having heard all the fuss about what a great pub and restaurant this was, we were looking forward to dining there. We booked a table beforehand and arrived before our allocated time in order to enjoy a drink before dining. We were met by the most unfriendly welcome by being told that they were short staffed, given two menus and pointed to our table which had the most uncomfortable chairs I have ever sat on. Two minutes later, and I mean two minutes, we were asked if we were ready to order. I had only just read the starters! Ok, we thought, it hadn't got these rave reviews for nothing so let's forget all that and order. How disappointing. The food at best was average and definately not worth the hefty price tag. Three "1st's" happened that evening; a) it is the first time that I have been served a bottle of wine by it being banged on the table with the top still on and the words "there you go". Don't get me wrong, I don't want anyone fussing over me, but take the top off and ask if you want to taste (which I always say no) or if you want it pouring I thought were surely minimal requirements in any restaurant. b) it is the first time that from ordering to leaving, nobody at any time asked if everything was ok. And, c) because the experience was so bad it is the first time that I have not left a tip. A great shame, as it is a lovely pub in a stunning location, but I get the feeling that if you are not a regular, then they couldn't give a monkeys. They have got their unwarranted good reputation, and will live off that. I do not give bad reports about anything usually, but this deserved it unfortunately. Needless to say, we will not be going back.
