“Wonderful location and great food”

Our Chalet (No.19) was very clean and spacious and had a wonderful view over the loch in front of the site and to the hills beyond.

The pool was small but able to keep my two (10 and 12) occupied for an hour or so.

On-site restaurant was excellent (although beware - the main courses are very generous). It can be busy and one night we had a long wait but we were kept informed and were given a free round of drinks but the main things was that the food, when it arrived, was still excellent.

We will be back.

“Fab!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 July 2011

Yet another super visit to Barend, this was our 5th time. The food and service at the bar/restaurant were excellent this trip, would highly recommend. Our compliments to the chef - much improved from last time. Lovely walks, swimming every day, gorgeous weather and of course the fabulous wildlife - we all loved the nightly visits from the badgers. Try and take a visit to the deer park if you are there, wonderful. None of us wanted to leave, it feels like our 2nd home. We will definitely be back, soon!

“We didn't love it and we won't be back”

We stayed in Ash Lodge, number 40. On first impressions the lodge seemed okay, but when we looked closely, and tried to view to loch through the filthy windows, we realised the whole lodge was dirty. There were dog poo bags, full, gathered at the side window which had not been disposed of. There was dust along all the skirtings, the wooden walls were filthy and greasy as was the kitchen, and the floors didnt look as if they had seen a mop for months! The upstairs bathroom leaked water onto the bottom hall stairs. The childrens playpark had four swings, three of which were broken, and nothing else. The swimming pool was okay but the lights and the showers were not working on the last evening, and no-one seemed to be around to report it. On the plus side, the bar staff were lovely and it was immaculate.

“Great Family Get Away!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 June 2011

Barend Holiday Village is a great location for a "get away from it all" type break.
I was fortunate enough to get a surprise birthday break for my 40th Birthday with 17 of us taking 3 lodges.

The lodges were clean and well positioned with spectacular views of the surrounding countryside and the kids loved the open space and the nice clean pool.

Within easy reach to an extremely clean beach cove, it was a shame that the weather didnt allow some time to relax on the sand!

Whilst there aren't any bars or restaurants within walking distance, there are some within a short drive away (we ate at the Clonyard Hotel about 2-3 miles away on the Saturday night and the food was superb)

There is a bar on the complex which was busy on the Friday Night (Quiz) and had a really friendly atmosphere

The site does not have a shop, however a few hundred yards, at the bottom of the road, (close to the beach) there is a general store selling essential items.

In short - for a great relaxing family weekend this is an ideal place. All staff were helpful and polite and we were sad to be going after just three nights - as we could have happily stayed the week!

Stock up - take your groceries / beer / wine etc and you will not be dissapointed!!
This place definitely softened the blow of hitting 40!!!! Thanks!

“Excellent break away!”

What a lovely peaceful area this Holiday village is set in with some fantastic views. First impressions of the holiday village really clean and tidy and well maintained. The lodge was just as good if not better with ample room for the four of us and the dog. With a short walk to the beach which is fantastic for the kids and the dog to have a run around on. Reception staff where exceptional and very helpful and had lots of info to help us find activities to do in and around the area. Nice pool on site very clean and the water was warm always good!!....The Barend Bar & Restaurant on site was extremely good with really friendly bar staff... Food and service excellent in the bar and plenty for the kids to do too as we enjoyed the Quiz night on the Friday night which was great fun. All in all a great little holiday village and would definitely visit again!
