Booked this hotel on a `3 nights for the price of 2` deal that many hotels offer at this time of year.
The hotel is well sign-posted, easy to find and is in a good location for exploring this beautiful part of the world.
We stayed in room 12 (as requested) which was on the ground floor with it`s own private balcony. As previously mentioned in earlier reviews, this room was once an office and, from the way it has been fitted out, I assume this was to comply with regulations for disability access.
There were a few minor niggles which could become more irritable if staying longer. The bathroom sink is tiny, so much so, that the kettle cannot even be filled from it (had to do this via a beaker) and was not very practical when trying to wash or shave. The switches around the bed were partially obscured by the headboard resulting in trapped fingers when trying to operate them. Had to pull the bed away from the wall to resolve this, surely a lower headboard should be fitted here?
The room is handily located between the lobby/reception area and the lounge/dining room. The downside of this is that every noise and loud conversation is heard and I could imagine this being more of a problem in the busier months. Furthermore, the `private` balcony would be anything but that in the summer as it is adjacent to the outside drinking area of the public bar.
Overall though, the room was a reasonable size and warm. The bed was very comfortable and the view, as you would expect, is outstanding.
Breakfast was the usual standard offering, no more, no less, though the service was very good.
The evening meals proved to be the ultimate deciding factor...
For the first two nights the service and quality were very good. The barman/waiter was quick and attentive and the menu, although rather limited, contained dishes that were all home-made and tasted excellent.
On the third night it was like we had walked into a different hotel. I can only assume the regular barman and chef were on a night off going by what we experienced.
On entering the dining room, we were told `only three tables had been set and we haven`t got one ready for you` (not a way to make your guests feel welcome!) Surely the hotel knows who is staying and who has booked dinner and should be prepared for this?
After hastily setting up a table, we sat down and ordered our courses. My wife enjoyed the starter of chicken goujons with yoghurt dip the previous night and ordered the same again. This time they were served with a tub of mayonnaise and both starters were lukewarm, taking 40 mins to arrive. It was a major drop in standards from the previous two nights. My wife (and others) had the haddock the previous night so I ordered this for my main course, a large portion of fresh haddock in a hand made batter, it looked and tasted delicious. What I received that night was nothing more than a processed portion of fish that can be bought from the freezer department of any supermarket. Whilst edible, it was nothing I couldn`t have made myself and certainly not worth the £20 supplement. It was a poor ending to our last night.
Whilst I fully understand that staff need to have a day off, the standard of service and quality of food should not suffer as a result. The experience left us disappointed and spoilt what was turning into a very enjoyable break.
We felt like we had outstayed our welcome. Having booked a `3 for 2` offer, it seemed that by the third night our custom was being `tolerated` rather than valued.
I can only summise, from our experience, that this place is fine for a brief visit. Stay too long and you will outstay your welcome and the cracks will begin to show. Next time the Ballachulish hotel across the bridge may be worth a try......

I do apologise most profusely if you felt that the last night of your short break was marred by my ineptitude. As I pointed out to you on that last evening, you had got the "B Team"! Our Front-of-House, James had his night off and you were left to the tender mercies of Cheryl and me. Cheryl works only one night a week for us and without direction from me, (which she didn't get) she had no way of knowing who was staying and who was expected for dinner that evening.
At this time of year we are very quiet and we try to cope with as few staff as possible. Unfortunately when we do get a sudden influx of guests we are sometimes unprepared. Choosing to have two deals together meant that you were staying three nights for the price of two and having the dinner deal which is normally for only two nights. Certainly we should have organised a better variety of choices for you so you were not forced to choose the same food two nights in a row but I can assure you that the chef on the 2nd and 3rd night were one and the same person and he did not slip away to Fort William and buy a fish from the supermarket.
I certainly take your point about the shortcomings with room 12 and as you have observed you are not the first people to mention the problems that this room has. They are all in hand and will be sorted out as soon as I have enough money to get it done.
Finally I would like to say how sorry I am that you felt that you had worn out your welcome. I must admit that on your final night you both seemed to be unhappy before I had even messed up you dining experience, sometimes it is the attitude of the guest that really directs the end result
