“PERFECT”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 December 2011

We had a family wedding in Plas Maenan on 21st December and to say it was brilliant would be the understatement of the century. The owners and staff were all 5 star and everything ran as smooth as a Swiss watch. The food was excellent and the organisation superb. Just one word of warning - be careful of the steps at the front of the hotel.

Room Tip: All the rooms are magnificently furnish and quiet.

“A place to relax in comfort”

Having arrived yesterday the staff and owners made us feel welcomed from the start.

The views are breath taking with the Welsh mountains capped in snow. Upon opening the front door the fire where lit and a smile greeted us. There is plenty to do with many attractions within a comfortable driving distance.

The room was superb and the bed was extremely comfortable and meant we slept as soon as our heads hit the pillows. The dinner menu offered a varied selection and I ended up choosing the pheasant with red onion on a crumpet. The portion size was just right however I would have preferred it to be a hot dish instead of a cold one.

The main course was Christmas turkey and it was lovely to receive vegetables that weren't over cooked and still slightly hard. The lemon posset was a great combination of the sharpness of the lemon offset by the sweetness of a honey topping.

From pre dinner drinks to late in the evening the staff, especially Neris and 'JC', made us feel welcomed and nothing was too much bother.

I would highly recommend this venue and I can see why they, rightly so, won the best guest house award. The service was so good that we thought we where in a Hotel.

“The perfect small wedding”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2011

My husband and I had a beautiful wedding here with just fourteen people. If you look on their wedding gallery you will see our table which I dressed myself! We were married by candelight in front of the fire in the front lounge, before which, our guests had champagne and canapes in the music room and we had a friend of ours play their piano. After the ceremony, we went back to the music room for an hour and then had dinner in their small dining room, again by candelight. We had fresh lavender on the table instead of flowers, with the colour scheme being aubergine, silver and grey. It was absolutely perfect! We were married at 5pm and everyone left by 9.30 and then we sat and had a glass of champagne by ouselves by the fire in the bar. We have now been married nearly a year and I can't think why it has taken me this long to write a review!! If anybody wants a small, intimate winter wedding, this definetely would take some beating!

“Wonderful Wedding Venue & Tasty Breakfast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2011

I only attended an evening reception with my husband, but was lucky enough to be allocated one of the suites that overlooked the front of the property.
Room had a massive lounge area separate to the bedroom and came equipped with fridge, sink, tea making facilities, microwave and a dining room table.

Even though the weather was awful and rainy, the views across the valley were amazing.

The ensuite bathroom just off our twin room was also large with separate walk in shower (which felt like it used to be a cupboard as was so small) and separate bath.

As the entire venue was reserved for the wedding we didn't get to dine in the main restaurant, however the evening buffet was excellent and the breakfast menu was the best I've seen for a long time. Instead of having just a cooked breakfast I had Eggs Benedict which were very tasty indeed.

Overall a lovely short stay, shame it was a 10:30am check out the day!

Room Tip: All rooms are very different, suites cost more obviously. Ask to see some photos of rooms before al...

“Everything was perfect, well almost everything .”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2011

As you would expect from a retired Royal Equerry, the attention to detail is superb in every respect. Our only quibble was that, despite protests to the contrary, we doubt if the braised pheasant was freshly cooked to order each night as we were told.

Our pheasant dish is actually a slow-cooked confit of pleasant leg (prepared earlier in a batch) together with a breast of pheasant cooked to order immedialtely before service. Perhaps 'casserole' is not an appropriate description for the dish and we will ensure that guests are given a better description in future! Thank you for this - it is good to be alerted.

James was in fact a Yeoman of the Royal Cellars. He looked after HM The Queen's wine and served it at family, formal and state occasions. He was based at Buckingham Palace but travelled with the Royal Household to Windsor, Sandringham, Holyrood and Balmoral. A treasured and unforgettable time!

Whilst responding we would like to thank all of our reviewers for taking the time and trouble to write their reviews of Plas Maenan and for their kind comments. We are not perfect and neither are we complacent - you can still catch us on a bad day but we are cheered and comforted by what we read and we are incredably proud of the resulting certificate of excellence - Thank you Trip Advisor!
