“Disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

We arrived on a Friday for a long weekend to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday and attend my niece's 21st on the Saturday. The bar stopped serving food at 2pm and the bar closed not long afterwards. It was a bitterly cold day and this was disappointing as we would have liked to have had a few drinks and chatted to family but could not. When we were shown to our room we were really disappointed as the room was so small - the bathroom was almost the same size! We phoned down and said the room was not suitable and were shown a family room. Room size was fine but the bed linen (inc the bedspread) had cigarette burns in it and tears. There was a loud fan immediately outside the bedroom. and the room smelled of Jeyes Fluid - almot like someone/something had died in it. The smell was that overpowering we asked to see a further room, which was even smaller than the first. Hotel offered to refund the balance that I had paid on arrival and I asked for a refund of the deposit I had previously paid when booking. The lady refused to refund it and I commented that I could understand that refunds would not be made for people that did not turn up but we had turned up and they did not have any suitable rooms. I said I would contact Trading Standards if the deposit was not also refunded. She went into a room to make a call to someone and eventually came out and said she would refund the deposit also. At no time did she look at me, was extremely offhand and very defensive, unprofessional and dismissive. She said the hotel could not be held to account for their standards of cleanliness in cleaning the bathrooms with Jeyes Fluid and I made the point that that was not the issue - it was the smell. Surprised that a hotel would leave a room sticking like that. Very disappointing as, whilst the hotel is in an ideal situation with some good sea views, albeit it looks tired and needs some refurbishment, it would have been ideal for us. Sadly, not to be.

“Surprise birthday weekend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

We arrived on Friday a cold day but the welcome from the reception staff was very warm indeed. We arrived in time for coffee and a snack of which wasn't bad. The rooms were of a high quality in decoration and warmth, the tea/coffee and biscuits in the room was more than adequate and the bathroom was spotless. Also on the Friday evening there was a singer who was excellent.
Over the course of the weekend there was a few surprises for me in the way of family and friends who arrived without my knowledge and they found the hotel to be 1st class all round.
We left on the Sunday lunch time but had we known there was Sunday lunch with Jazz we would have stayed longer and we will certainly go back to this lovely hotel.
As for the surrounding area of Weston, there is a large Shopping complex called the Sovereign Centre, with all the usual large stores. Loads of brand name pubs & plenty going on for all ages.
Breakfast at the hotel included cereal and a full English together with as much tea & coffee that you required, the staff were helpful and friendly and we will most likely return for another weekend trip.

Room Tip: The odd number rooms on the 1st floor were facing the sea/Pier

“Perfect weekend away”

Just returned from a weekend at The Royal and had brilliant time. Family party of 10 for my Fathers 80th Birthday. Rooms 216, 201, 202, 203 and 204 which all had great sea/pier views. Room 201 was quirky with uneven floors which made you feel a bit drunk! Evening meal was great as was breakfast and staff were attentive. Altogether a great weekend.

Room Tip: Room 202 was great size twin with huge bathroom

“Many Happy Return(s) Visit :-))”

Another excellent visit to the Royal, this time as a Birthday Trip.
This Hotel is centrally located in W-s-M, with plenty of secure parking, ideally placed for trips to the sea-front and/or shops, whatever is your bag! It's also handy for the station (about 10 minutes walk ... faster by car or taxi) for trains to Bristol (north) or the delights of Somerset farther inland and south.
Once again, our room was excellent, clean, comfortable and warm, perhaps just a wee bitty too warm, but one can blame the unseasonally mild weather we enjoyed. (Anyway, you can always switch off the heating and open a window :-) ).
The staff are excellent, couldn't be more friendly and helpful and service at table was first class.
That said, the food couldn't be faulted either, breakfast and dinner. Selections/menus were quite varied and interesting and well cooked and presented.
Will certainly recommend the Royal to our friends and associates.

Room Tip: The Royal has 'live' entertainment at weekends and it is in a predominantly holiday, seaside...

“Terrible beauty therapist!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

I stayed at the hotel a few weeks ago and decided to have a full body massage as I was on a very stressful work visit, and thought it would be quite a relaxing treat. Well, I left feeling more stressed than when I arrived. The treatment was horrendous, completely over priced for what it was, and the therapist clearly didn't have a clue what she was doing. She was very rude unprofessional and in experienced. She made me feel very uncomfortable and I just wanted the treatment to be over. I would not recommend this to anybody. The hotel was lovely however, but would truly benefit from having a much more highly trained professional therapist, as this completely ruined my stay!
