“Vastly over priced for 3 stars”

We stayed 1 night whilst attending a family wedding and were quoted £130 instead of £170. To my dismay we had a small room in which the TV was not working, a bulb had blown in the main lights, a pane of glass in the window was cracked and the clock did not work. The bathroom had no shelves and the bath panel was not sealed plus there was a hole in the floor behind the hand basin. Other members of our party had large rooms with seating and separate bed area and were the same price. I can only assume the price is for american tourists because I have stayed in far better hotels for a lot less. I would say do not have room 20 and just for good measure the view unlike some was the back of someones house.

Room Tip: Do not have room 20 small and no real view not worth the charge

“Charming, riverside, family owned "find" on the shores of the River Dee”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2011

Scottish charm...every room is decorated in a different unique style. Love the traditional accents and that they haven't gone NY modern. Public rooms, stairs could use updating (perhaps new carpeting) but other than that it was a wonderful place to stay. Staff could not have been friendlier. The Lodge is located right on the shores of the river, nearly all rooms have a view. Breakfast was huge. Bar cozy, restaurant has a good view. It is like a home away from home. Very reasonably priced.

“WONDERFUL PLACE!WONDERFUL STAFF!WONDERFUL FOOD :-)”

We came here to celebrate our anniversay and my birthday, quietly and without any kids. We had a fabulous time, walks along the river, and even the wander round Banchory itself was great. Just what we needed to get away from the hustle and bustle of home. I would definately recommend this hotel to anyone that wants a break away in comfort and homely surroundings. The staff were more than helpful, when my partner complained of the onset of a cold the girls at the bar arranged a hot toadie for him to take to bed with him. They were so attentive and did everything they could to make our stay amazing. We stayed in the Oriental room, a room I would definately ask for again. It was beautiful, a lovely bed, plenty storage for all our clothes and an amazing bathroom with the best bath ever!! We were lucky to have a room facing the river. Such a beautiful view to wake up to!The whole hotel was clean and tidy and we couldnt fault it. OK, the place is covered in nicknacks but thats what gives the place its charm, I wouldnt change it at all!

After a day of driving and walking we decided to eat in the hotel, the BEST decision ever! The meal was out of this world, venison cooked to perfection, we were even given a little appetiser when we sat down to the table, which was great! We had an evening of dinner over looking the river and drinks infront of a roasting open fire. We opted for the full Scottish breakfast in the morning and again we were not dissappointed. It was fab! (The black pudding was especially nice)

We had such a nice time and will definately be back again for another weekend getaway...but next time I'll bring my hiking boots :-)

Room Tip: Ask for one over looking the river, you wont be dissappointed :-)

“Old world which grows on you”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2011 via mobile

Stayed here for a short business trip due to a conference in Aberdeen taking up all hotel rooms. The more time you spend there the nicer you realise this place is.

The setting is idillic, full blown Scottish salmon river location and stunning grounds which are amazingly maintained.

The hotel itself drips with character from reception to the bedrooms. I was fortunate to have a room facing the river and left the window open to be lulled by the sound of the river.

Salmon leap in the river and we were blessed with brilliant weather and skies at sunrise and sunset which were stunning.

My colleague and I enjoyed an excellent meal in the huge bay window of the restaurant overlooking the river. Steaks were perfection as was service, wine and pretty much everything.

When you take into consideration the size and complex layout of the hotel, together with traditional nic nacs everywhere, they do a great job of keeping the place clean.

A bit of a hike to Aberdeen but I would use it again, just wish I'd brought my camera!
