“A Very Pleasant Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

people found this review helpful

*** Overview

The value of the room was very good; we only paid £80 for 2 nights, on a room only basis. We wouldn’t have paid much more if breakfast wasn’t included.

We did find the service rather lacklustre at times. See below for more info.

All in all, we had a pleasant stay and regard we got what we paid for.

*** Location

The hotel was very easy to find although my Sat Nav took me down the road behind the hotel! The hotel was in the ideal place to explore the countryside and sights nearby, such as Ironbridge.

*** Exterior & Parking

We found the exterior rather nice with some charm. Parking was in plentiful supply.

*** Service

Unfortunately there were 2 incidents so that the Service rating can only be marked as average. Firstly, upon our arrival after travelling across the country, we were rapidly checked-in and given our key. Our room’s location wasn’t the easiest as we had to haul luggage up the mini staircase leading to our room. It was then that our electronic key didn’t work so my partner had to go back to the reception to resolve the problem. She was made to feel as if she was stupid as she couldn’t work the key and felt patronised. In fact it was their fault as the key wasn’t swiped to validate it. The second occurrence was ordering food in the bar. The waitress was extremely grumpy and didn’t provide any cutlery with our meal. I think she had a bad day as other staff commented on it. Not the best service, but not the worst we have experienced.

*** Bedroom

The bed was ENORMOUS! It was also extremely comfortable. The room was very spacious and clean. It had lovely views of the lake. The room was fairly quiet. Being a bit more pernickety, the hangers in the wardrobe didn’t match, the ‘Hospitality Tray’ sign reminds me of an office sign and the curtains cover the radiators so the room gets slightly cooler. But these recommendations are really only valid if we had paid £20+ more a night. We were very impressed with what we received.

*** Bathroom

The bathroom was again big and spacious. The complementary toiletries were of a good quality. There were plenty of towels. Like the bedroom, we found the bathroom’s cleanliness to be of a high standard. Another plus-point is that there was a bath which was great after a long drive.

The only criticism was that the shower pressure wasn’t great and the temperature gradually got colder (5-10 min shower).

*** Food

The price of breakfast was a bit steep – quoted £13.95 each so we didn’t bother with breakfast at the hotel. We ate in the lounge bar the first night and were happy with quality of the food. We thought it was going to be typical standard and tasteless fare, but it was very tasty, presented neatly and was hot. A pity the service couldn’t meet the food’s standards.

Room Tip: I think we stayed in th newer (and cheaper) part of the hotel. This was very nice, but I would like...

“SO relaxing..!”

Just got back from Mercure Telford Madeley Court Hotel. Stunning hotel, fantastic location for Ironbridge ect. The staff were exceptional, friendly and helpful. We were fortunate enough to stay in room 3 (lakeside) in the old building. ONLY drawback was the doors, arches, in the bathroom. Being 6"2 there is alot of leaning over.. Bumped head a few time.. However, its the structure of the old building and couldn't be changed + would spoil it. Mercure beds are amazing.. Slept like a brick..! Thanks to all the staff for such a lovley time.

Room Tip: Rooms 1-4 have lakeside views and on the 1st floor overlooking the lake. Its a short walk around the...

Hello and thank you for your comments. we think the original inhabitants on Madeley Court were a lot shorter in the past and the Historic rooms do present an interesting challenge for our taller guests.

We are glad you enjoyed your stay - come back soon.

We had a lovely week-end for my Husbands birthday. We went with friends and booked the four poster bedrooms in the older part of the hotel.Lovely rooms and very comfortable beds. All the staff were lovely and nothing was too much trouble for them.I really like all the open fireplaces and the various lounges that you could sit in.We do a lot of travelling and i do not often bother writing reviews but praise where praise is due.The food was also delicious we all had steak which was beautifully cooked and exactly as requested. We really could not fault this lovely hotel so thanks to everyone for a lovely week-end

Room Tip: Book a bedroom in the old part of the house

Hello and thank you for your comments. As you have seen our dining room has very high ceilings (20ft) and when the temperature drops as low as it has recently - Minus 11 was recorded here - We do have are extremely large wood burning fire and we also supplement this with portable heating at times, so please accept our apologies for any discomfort caused during this time.

thank you again for your comments and we look forward to seeing you again soon.

“Business traveller, better than 'generic' hotels”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

Have stayed a few times at Madeley court, staying in 3 different rooms including a room in a newer building, once in the main building on the top floor and also in the gatehouse. Gatehouse room 2 is like a suite! I am writing this sat in the tower that has a couple of comfy chairs & a table. The free wifi (just) reaches this part of the hotel, and is a nice touch, considering other hotels in the area charge upto £15 per day for internet! Overall this is a nice hotel, friendly staff and great food. I would say if you stay in an older part of the hotel or out-buildings bring slippers!
