“Graduation Day Stopover”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 July 2008

What a gem! Booked a night for us and daughter graduating from Lancaster Uni and read the other reviews with interest. What a super stay! The rooms were the cleanest and sinks the whitest I have seen for a long time! The owners are welcoming and charming and our daughter had a twin room whilst we slept on the top floor, up 3 flights beautifully decorated narrow flights stairs! Breakfast was great, full English included and the cost amazing.....£55 for us and £27 for our daughter. Would recommend it without any doubt at all.

“Great location and good value for money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 December 2007

Myself and 4 friends stayed here for 2 nights in Dec 2007.The Hotel was spotless and the Staff who are mostly family members were absolutely superb.
Being mid winter the usual maintenance and refurbishments were under way but they did not at all spoil the enjoyment of the stay.
The rooms were clean, warm and very comfortable.
Its quiet location even though only minutes walk from the town centre and promenade meant an excellent nights sleep with no discernable street noise
Security for the hotel is state of the art with key fobs acting as the pass keys tro the main entrance
The owners were at pains to ensure our every need was catered in spite of the limited availaibilty of some of the facilities.
The cooked breakfast was very very good and the Dining area was cosy and welcoming. All in all a very pleasant exxperience and we shall certainly return

  • Liked — The friendly relaxed attitude
  • Disliked — the walk up two sets of stairs to bed

“Friendly hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2007

The hotel was immaculately clean. The bedroom though small was comfortable. Tv and coffee making facilities in the room. Good shower. Breakfast was excellent, special dietary requirements were catered for. The owners are very friendly and helpful.

“very dissapointed”

I was part of a party of 11 staying in this hotel for 2 nights. on arrival everything seemed ok, although hotel did have a funny smell in rooms but overall seemed clean and tidy, but more important suitable for kids. how wrong we were! we were made to feel very unwelcome. hotel rooms were cold, at breakfast, we were not given time to finish cereal when proprietor was taking plate away from us. kids couldn,t play pool or darts, or have access to any fluids apart from drinking out tap in sink in toilet! we arrived on the friday and and decided to stay in hotel as it had facillities to suit kids and a bar for adults. The kids weren,t allowed to make a noise or play darts after 10, there was no music apart from tv which the owner kept on sport or turned volume down. we ended up all going to bed, bored and fed up. on sat we went out for the day, when we came back in the afternoon kids were not allowed to play pool or darts and propietor refused to open bar because they didn,t want it open! because we complained about service we were asked to leave at 4oclock in the afternoon with no-where to go , kids and in the rain! we then had to search around for somewhere else to stay! very dissapointed and think the proprietors seriously need to think about the line of business they are in or make there made up rules clear from the time of booking!

our party booked this hotel on the internet, the website was attractive, the hotel had all that we had asked for. There was twelve of us in this party, on arrival we had a pleasant welcome, our rooms, were clean and tidy, although they were a bit on the small side.we booked this hotel because it had a bar which was later pointed out to us that it was only open when the proprietors felt like opening it. We had three children in this party they were allowed to play pool under continuous supervision by one of the proprietors. they were also allowed to play darts but only until 10.00 oclock at night, the proprietors did not want their children woken up at night. I was always under the beliefe that proprietors did all that they could to make guests welcome, willing to come and go with you, not in this case, they are very much running this hotel to suit their daily life, thus not accomodating their guests. We stayed on the friday night, spent all of saturday shopping returning to the hotel hoping to have a nice relaxing drink in the afternoon, getting out of the wind and rain, the bar was not open at 3.30 in the afternoon, we were told 'A DRINK AT THIS TIME?' this caused quite an upset with our party, voices were raised on our part, eventually we were asked to leave, we were homeless with three children at 5.00 oclock, on a wet and windy afternoon, we would not recommend this hotel to anyone, thankfully we did find somewhere else, but the proprietors of the glenthorn could not have cared less.

  • Liked — it was very clean and tidy
  • Disliked — the proprietors did not cater for our needs.
