“Positive "Groupie" Feedback”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

We've just returned from a three night stay at the Old Manse and having read the odd negative review would like to set the records straight regarding this accommodation. Our room (No.2) was warm, clean and tidy with a pleasant view of the snow-covered garden. Car parking facilities to the rear of the property were excellent and secure.
Our host Valerie made us very welcome and went out of her way to make our stay extremely enjoyable. The afternoon tea served on our arrival was second-to-none and breakfast offered an excellent choice of fresh fruit and cereal followed by a hearty full English complemented by unlimited fruit juice, fresh tea and coffee. With a roaring fire, comfortable chairs and daily papers provided in the lounge area, who could ask for more !
Thankyou Valerie - look forward to seeing you again later in the year.
Very best wishes. Ken. & Margaret - Manchester.

“"A lovely 2 night break in Pickering"”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

We booked our two night break through a Groupon deal.On arrival at the hotel a pleasant young man showed us to our room which was very pleasant and comfortable. He then asked us when we would like to have our cream tea and left us to unpack and settle in to our new surroundings.
We went to the dining room at the time we had suggested and were greeted by a lovely roaring fire, much appreciated as we had travelled in the snow and ice to pickering. We met our host Val who was very friendly and immediately made us feel at home, she then served our cream tea which was over and above what we expected including sandwiches, scones, jam and cream, teacakes, small cakes and pots of tea and fresh coffee.
The breakfasts during our stay were absolutely fantastic with local sausages, eggs, bacon and black pudding and lots of fresh fruits and juices available. We were very comfortable and warm during our stay and found our room to be very clean with daily restocking of tea tray , fresh towels and bins emptied etc. Val and her staff were polite, friendly and helpful in fact we felt immediately welcomed and taken care of.
All in all we had a lovely time in Pickering and had no complaints whatsoever, we would highly recommend the Old Manse Hotel to fellow travellers . Regards and Best wishes to Val and her staff . Dave and Alison Stafford from Derby

“Home from home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

It was with great regret that my wife and I decided to cut our visit short because of weather conditions and the threat of icy roads.
Our daughter booked the stay for us on Groupon and, from the moment of arrival, Val made us feel very welcome.
The room was very comfortable and overlooked the picturesue, snow-covered garden.
For breakfast there were all sorts of cereal and fruit then, from the menu, we both chose the Full English. It was superb.
We have no doubt that, Groupon or no Groupon, we would love to go back! Thank- you.

Warmly welcomed even though we arrived at lunchtime which is obviously a busy time which i understand. However we weren't informed about breakfast times or where the dining room or anything was. The room was comfy, warm & the bedding clean however it needed a good fettle, my coat fell on the floor & i had to really dust it off there was so much on it. Our room wasn't cleaned the next day, not sure if we should have left our keys but we weren't informed of that, there was a note to say sorry unable to clean your room here are clean towels.

We were woken early each morning to doors being banged loud & dogs barking. Obviously some guests aren't so thoughful so this may not be , especially the young girl on her mobile outside our door Sunday morning at gone 7am.

I personally don't like dogs in hotels, I missed this on booking via Groupon & didn't appreciate the dog hairs in our breakfasts, although you have a very good choice of breakfast which is freshly cooked.

Good location wise & afternoon tea was flexible & very nice.

Would I recommend this to any friends - sorry no.

It was very disapointing to read this review - her room was'nt cleaned the next day because we had
to give the master key - regarding our rating we are rated as a hotel 2-star. We did have two dogs staying,no dogs are allowed in our kitchen. in every room we have guest information re
meal times etc I am sorry who ever greeted you did'nt tell you about the master key - I have written
to this customer direct. Surely if you had a dog hair on your breakfast you would send it back.
her expections were greater than we could supply.

Kind regards Valerie

“Lovely Afternoon Tea and Very Welcoming but could be cleaner”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

Stayed the first week of January and had a lovely 1 night break on the Groupon voucher. We were welcomed even though we arrived early and shown to a lovely room on the top floor. The afternoon tea was way above and beyond what we expected and meant we didn't need to go out for an evening meal really. The location is very good, just 5 minutes walk from Pickering town centre with the steam train etc. The owner was very friendly to us and we generally had a lovely time. The only thing we had to complain about was that as we were packing up to leave my husband noticed a used plaster on the carpet next to the bed which was a bit gross. Aside from this a great place to stay if you want to visit Pickering/North Yorkshire.

Thank you so much for your lovely comments - I am sorry that you found a plaster in your room
our chambermaid had cut her finger and it had probably come off when she was hoovering.
I have written to the lady direct on her e-mail - apologies once again but accidents do happen.
Kind regards Valerie
