We would escape here every weekend if we could. Just had another fantastic New Year break with the most amazing food and hospitality. The wine list is excellent and then you get to stay in a lovely comfy room with crisp White sheets and fluffy pillows. Breakfasts to die for and then a long walk in the loveliest countryside.

We stayed in a contemporary courtyard room for one night. The staff at the Inn are very welcoming and we were given complimentary tea and coffee in the lounge on arrival. Our room was lovely with many additional and well thought out touches from the bath robes, magazines, tea pot and home made biscuits to the tea lights and matches provided in the beautiful bathroom (spotlessly clean with a large bath and separate shower). The room was warm and cosy with underfloor heating beneath the stone flag floor. The bed was comfortable with good quality linens. The hotel information book is very humorous and well worth reading!!
We dined in the restaurant in the evening and the food was outstanding- I had scallops, halibut and lemon tart and all were wonderful. I have never had such a large piece of halibut and it was perfectly cooked. My husband had the fish cakes, steak and cheese board and was equally impressed. The home made bread with our starters and the complimentary mushroom pate and toast whilst we were ordering our meal were another lovely touch.The wine list is comprehensive and good value and the wine was served at the perfect temperature. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere and the staff are brilliant- a real credit to the place.
Breakfast was also fantastic with a huge choice. The fruit juice is freshly squeezed. The marmalade is home made. We both opted for the full Yorkshire 'ginger pig' breakfast and it did not disappoint- beautiful!
We cannot recommend this Inn highly enough. We really could not fault anything throughout our stay. and cannot wait to return!

We were here for a birthday dinner followed by an overnight stay. The food was excellent, served in a well laid out dining room with a blazing fire. The service was efficient and attentive. Our accommodation was comfortable and we enjoyed reading the hotel information book left in the room, particularly the quirky sense of humour, e.g., "payment taken in cash, cheque, credit card, salt, whisky, or animal pelts (cured); late night bar available with appropriate bribery; if locked out late at night and you've forgotten to ask for the back door pass code you can sleep in the phone box across the road, or use it to phone and wake up the emergency manager; if you don't like the no smoking policy feel free to make a reservation at the 'Forest & Vale'; hypoallergenic pillows available from the housekeeping staff - other staff members may look perplexed but you will get what you ask for." We liked that - good service and good humour.

Had a wonderful relaxing 3 night stay between Christmas and the New Year. Lovely old Inn with real log fires - just the ticket to warm away the winter chills. Tastefully decorated bedroom designed with comfort in mind. Wonderful well presented food. We ate there twice in the evenings and thoroughly enjoyed the experience on both occasions. The hotel staff were friendly and professional so this helped to make the ambience very relaxed. However, it was noticeable that they came under pressure on one, very busy, breakfast service. Nevertheless, the quality of the food was excellent and we weren't rushing anywhere. Lots of nice little touches that made a difference such as: home made biscuits and preserves.
