“Great place, hard to find”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2011

First let me say by the website directions alone, this place is not easy to find. Use Google Maps or some such device to get you to the place.

Once you're there, the room will be a throwback to the past. The place is splendidly decorated and can take you all day to browse. We took our 3 year old on a walk through the trees and by a horse pasture and into a walled garden.

Breakfast was a wonderful experience too. The hostess went out of her way to make her guests feel comfortable. We wished we could stay longer.

I usually don't give Excellent ratings to places I stay, but this was an exception. If you're looking for modern furnishings and high speed internet, this is not the place for you.

Room Tip: Take a walk in the morning air after breakfast.

“Outstanding”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2011

What a great place to stay on our last night in Scotland. We felt like kings in the magnificent bedroom, with a great soft bed and wonderful furnishings. So sad we couldn't meet Moira, however Tony did a great job swapping from Lord of the Manor to butler, to tea brewer, to breakfast cook - well done. We had a lovely walk around the grounds in the evening, through the woods & the fields and the gardens. All in all we felt thoroughly spoilt. Can confidently recommend to anyone.
Enjoyed chatting with the previous Liverpudlian reviewers and yes the breakfast was superb - best in UK. A great base for visiting Stirling, Perth, Dundee, Edinburgh, Falkirk, Glasgow - even Loch Lomond.
Would go back to Scotland just to stay here again.

“Second time visiting and still think it's a great B&B!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2011

West Plean B&B – 25th August 2011

This was our second time at staying at West Plean, we needed a one night stay over on the first leg of our little weekend tour of Scotland and West Plean was the first place I thought of when planning as the next day we were visiting Blair Drummond Safari Park which was only 15 minutes drive from the B&B..

Moira and Tony are very cordial hosts and make you feel at home in their beautiful country house.

We had a five day tour of Scotland planned and on the Thursday we drove the 4 hours from Liverpool to Edinburgh to see the Jungle City that was held at the Botanic Gardens. The art work was stunning!

After a bit of sightseeing around Calton Hill with its wonderful view of Arthur’s Seat and Holyrood Park, we drove the 45minute/1 hour to West Plean just 5/10 minutes from Stirling, set in wonderfully peaceful countryside but only minutes from a major round about with routes to all parts of Scotland.

We were met at the door by Poppy the family Corgi who was very friendly. Tony greeted us and showed us to our room, which we were pleased to find, was the same room we had on our last visit two years ago!

The room and en-suite bathroom, (still both huge!) had some modifications from two years ago, there was new paint on the walls, the bathroom had a new bath and there was also a new flat screen TV. There were still lots of cupboards to store clothes and the complimentary kettle, tea and biscuits. I thought that the double bed had the most comfortable mattress of all of the B&B’s we stayed at this weekend.

Tony gave us a nice pot of tea in the guest lounge and we relaxed after our travelling with Poppy at David’s feet.

That evening we went to Frankie and Benny’s on the other side of the Vue complex and had a lovely meal. Last time we visited, the restaurant was elusive as the post code doesn’t take you to the correct area!

The breakfast the next morning was enjoyable as we got talking to other guests who were staying at West Plean, touring from Tasmania. The day before we told Tony we don’t have a cooked breakfast, and when we arrived at the table, there was a bowl of fruit ready for us and he left us to get our cereals, he even poured our tea and coffee for us, which was nice. The other guests were commenting that the cooked breakfast at West Plean was the largest they had had on their trip but didn’t complain about the quality!

Even though it was a whistle stop stay at West Plean, I would still stay again if the opportunity arose and cannot recommend highly enough how comfortable a stay it is at West Plean!

“Very comfortable B&B in delightful surroundings”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 August 2011

An interesting and comfortable old house in pleasant grounds. We particularly like the the sitting rooms which offer an alternative to lurking in your room. The bedroom was large and well appointed with a comfortable bed and the bathroom was grand. Friendly host & hostess.Good breakfast. A good base for Stirling, Linlithgow, the Falkirk Wheel etc.

“Beautiful country estate”

B&b within a working farm. Loved the large home & surrounds - sweeping lawn, walled garden, forest & country walks. Hosts were very pleasant & welcoming. Large bedroom. Excellent breakfast. Well appointed but no wi-fi in bedroom - access in guest sitting room (limited range for security). GPS (Sat/Nav) had difficulty locating property based on website address provided. Easy & quick road access to Stirling, but little in the immediate vicinity - especially restaurants. We dined at local golf club which we enjoyed despite its lack of character.
