West Plean B&B – 25th August 2011
This was our second time at staying at West Plean, we needed a one night stay over on the first leg of our little weekend tour of Scotland and West Plean was the first place I thought of when planning as the next day we were visiting Blair Drummond Safari Park which was only 15 minutes drive from the B&B..
Moira and Tony are very cordial hosts and make you feel at home in their beautiful country house.
We had a five day tour of Scotland planned and on the Thursday we drove the 4 hours from Liverpool to Edinburgh to see the Jungle City that was held at the Botanic Gardens. The art work was stunning!
After a bit of sightseeing around Calton Hill with its wonderful view of Arthur’s Seat and Holyrood Park, we drove the 45minute/1 hour to West Plean just 5/10 minutes from Stirling, set in wonderfully peaceful countryside but only minutes from a major round about with routes to all parts of Scotland.
We were met at the door by Poppy the family Corgi who was very friendly. Tony greeted us and showed us to our room, which we were pleased to find, was the same room we had on our last visit two years ago!
The room and en-suite bathroom, (still both huge!) had some modifications from two years ago, there was new paint on the walls, the bathroom had a new bath and there was also a new flat screen TV. There were still lots of cupboards to store clothes and the complimentary kettle, tea and biscuits. I thought that the double bed had the most comfortable mattress of all of the B&B’s we stayed at this weekend.
Tony gave us a nice pot of tea in the guest lounge and we relaxed after our travelling with Poppy at David’s feet.
That evening we went to Frankie and Benny’s on the other side of the Vue complex and had a lovely meal. Last time we visited, the restaurant was elusive as the post code doesn’t take you to the correct area!
The breakfast the next morning was enjoyable as we got talking to other guests who were staying at West Plean, touring from Tasmania. The day before we told Tony we don’t have a cooked breakfast, and when we arrived at the table, there was a bowl of fruit ready for us and he left us to get our cereals, he even poured our tea and coffee for us, which was nice. The other guests were commenting that the cooked breakfast at West Plean was the largest they had had on their trip but didn’t complain about the quality!
Even though it was a whistle stop stay at West Plean, I would still stay again if the opportunity arose and cannot recommend highly enough how comfortable a stay it is at West Plean!
