“Travelodge Gatwick Central”

This is a great place to spend a night when travelling - everything was just so good about it..the price (!); the big airy Reception with friendly helpful Receptionists; the big clean room; the big spotlessly clean bed and an even cleaner bathroom. There was no noise at nighttime, you could have been in the middle of the country - would thoroughly recommend!

“Very Basic, but Clean!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

I was dreading staying at the Gatwick Central Travelodge after reading LOTS of very bad reviews, When I arrived I was greeted by a very friendly guy on reception, checked in and went to my room. I stayed in room 31 which looks like its in a new building attached to the front of the hotel.
The room was small and very basic, it had a small kettle and a TV. The plus side of it being small is that you can sit on the toilet and watch EastEnders at the same time :)

Its pretty much what you expect from a Travelodge.

The room only had a shower, no bath but again adequate and very clean.

The hotel advertises free wifi in rooms however there was no wifi in my room.

The windows are locked and you are not able to open them, they do block out most sound however room 31 is on the ground floor and you do hear noise when the Airport shuttle bus arrives.

I would recommend this hotel if you are flying out of Gatwick or needing to stay local. (not worth going out of your way though).

“The stale taste of recycled air”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

I hope you like recycled air, because the windows don't open in this place (probably because it's right near the airport).

It's not far from the airport, you can take the bus which costs £3 each way and runs at various times throughout the day and night. Quite easy as it stops and drops off passengers right outside the door.

The building itself is going under renovation, but I didn't experience any disruption as I checked in at night and was gone again before early morning (stayed between two flights).

The rooms are just standard Travelodge, but some things narked me a little, there were no plug sockets near the bed (I like to charge my phone overnight and I also use it as an alarm and a clock), the main light didn't light up the whole room, the toilet seat was broke and the plug for the sink was jammed. As I was only staying for a short time and I had loads of things I didn't bother to complain. I'm sure if I did the staff would have moved me.

The staff I encountered were really nice, you have the option of checking in with the staff or there are several self service check in machines too.

Overall it was a nice rest between my flights, it beats sitting in the airport for 6/7 hours. If you book early enough you can get a good price.

Room Tip: Book in advance as the rooms are super cheap, I paid £15.

“Pleasantly surprised!”

This Travelodge appears to be newly renovated and is fresh and clean. The staff are also friendly and helpful. The rooms are nice and clean as well as soundproofed from airport noise. The windows are non-opening and there is air conditioning. Travelodge rooms are basic, but adequate for a short stay. The restaurant and bar facilities at the Travelodge are also good and the breakfast gave a good start to the day. Be prepared to pay an extra £7.50 to park the car overnight. The airport shuttle bus costs about £3.00 each way.

“very close to north terminal, great value”

I booked in advance for the night before departure and upon arrival at £12 and £15 respectively. Room was spacious, clean and all you could want for a stopover. Staff seemed very friendly and helpful. Just a shame that it is so close to the airport but there is not really a safe way to walk. Bus shuttle is a rip off at £3 each way pp, Travelodge offers a taxi transfer for £6 so is worth it if there are two travellers or more. Severely understaffed kitchen, was told food orders were not being taken as food was 1 and a half to two hours wait. We had to walk in the snow to a pub which was pricy but worth it.
