Fantastic food, a beautiful old-fashioned bar and a great modern pool and spa. The rooms are comfortable if a little cold at time, though an extra heater was supplied, so I have no complaints!

Recently had a very good formal 3 course lunch, which was a lovely experience because of the attentive service and very good quality Food. The Starter was tasty and a good portion and the main course Roast Sirloin hand carved at the table was accompanied with Roast Potatoes and
Light as a feather Yorkshire and a good variety of Vegetables.
The Desserts were truly scrummy and the coffee served in the Conservatory finished a memorable day.

We've just had a lovely weekend there to celebrate my partners 40th birthday and had a lovely time. We invited a few of our friends to stay and they spend time with us there too.

It is a lovely place with attentive staff, the hotel looks a bit rough around the edges in places but can forgive that in an historic hotel such as this.

Our only complaint really is the noise levels outside of the hotel. Our room was an outside facing one opposite a pub which was very noisy on the Friday night until around midnight. On the Saturday, someone in one of the flats opposite had a party until around 4am, which really did spoil a lovely evening. I appreciate these are outside of the hotel but it might be worth asking for an inside room if staying over a weekend.

All in all, a lovely place with and old world charm. We would stay again but not in an outside room.

I stayed at the Spread Eagle from 23 January for six days. I used the spa extensively in the evenings and my only disappointment was that the steam room was not 'steamy' enough in my opinion. It was out of action for a day or two for repairs. The cleanliness of the hotel was excellent and the staff were really helpful - nothing was too much trouble. The food was first class though I would have liked more vegetables with the meals - that's just a personal preference. All in all, it would make a great location for a weekend of shopping, walking, rest and relaxation.
