Coniston Hotel, Southport
We booked this hotel for a short break to enable us to visit family nearby. The hotel had parking at the front for approx 6 cars, and this was on a ‘first come’ basis, although we were always lucky enough to get a space. The owner advised they were looking at the possibility of obtaining some permits (you need a permit to park in the area), so check with the hotel if parking is important to you. We didn’t, as the website advised there was parking available, but the owner said this was a mistake on the website and had requested the site to update the information however, as advised above, we were always able to get a space during our stay.
This hotel, to me, is more like a B&B. If you like the anonymous feeling of a hotel, this place is not for you. It is fairly small, our room was basic but clean, and the location of the hotel is excellent – 5 minutes walk – to the end of the street and around the corner, and you are in the centre of Southport. It is also convenient for the beach etc.
Breakfast was excellent i.e. large fry with many varied items, with the usual fruit juice / cereals to start, and tea / coffee and toast to follow. As I am not a ‘fry’ person, the owner offered mushrooms on toast, which were delicious – not bland and greasy like some I have had in larger hotels! The comments in the guest book were full of praise for the breakfasts!
The couple who run this hotel were always very pleasant and welcoming, and I would recommend this hotel if you are looking for somewhere reasonable and clean in the Southport area. However, if you have any disability needs, do check regarding access as there are a number of steps up to the front door.
