“Basic but good”

Stayed for one night at the Coniston Hotel after having a Spa Day, the owners were lovely on arrival ended up staying in a room on the top floor which was basic clean and comfortable it had a double and a single bed in it so we had plenty of room, but found the stairs abit of a climb(not being as young as I use to be) would ask for a room on the first floor if we stayed here again. The breakfast was good and plenty of it. The hotel is just a couple of minutes walk to Lord Street and the shops and about 10 mins to the seafront all in all value for money.

“Clean basic, very good”

Coniston Hotel, Southport

We booked this hotel for a short break to enable us to visit family nearby. The hotel had parking at the front for approx 6 cars, and this was on a ‘first come’ basis, although we were always lucky enough to get a space. The owner advised they were looking at the possibility of obtaining some permits (you need a permit to park in the area), so check with the hotel if parking is important to you. We didn’t, as the website advised there was parking available, but the owner said this was a mistake on the website and had requested the site to update the information however, as advised above, we were always able to get a space during our stay.
This hotel, to me, is more like a B&B. If you like the anonymous feeling of a hotel, this place is not for you. It is fairly small, our room was basic but clean, and the location of the hotel is excellent – 5 minutes walk – to the end of the street and around the corner, and you are in the centre of Southport. It is also convenient for the beach etc.
Breakfast was excellent i.e. large fry with many varied items, with the usual fruit juice / cereals to start, and tea / coffee and toast to follow. As I am not a ‘fry’ person, the owner offered mushrooms on toast, which were delicious – not bland and greasy like some I have had in larger hotels! The comments in the guest book were full of praise for the breakfasts!
The couple who run this hotel were always very pleasant and welcoming, and I would recommend this hotel if you are looking for somewhere reasonable and clean in the Southport area. However, if you have any disability needs, do check regarding access as there are a number of steps up to the front door.

“Very Attentitive and Caring Hosts”

Wanting a cozy genuine clean hotel, please do consider the Coniston Hotel for Friends and yourself wanting a quiet break during Christmas, may it be for shopping or for a firiend to stay at, due to high volume at home.
The best was Claire and Derrick making you feel at home, and I like the fact that I had a warm and comfortable lounge to watch television, along with a large Window to watch neighbourhood activites.
Again cozy and clean dining area, Derrick the chef does prepare a good morning breakfast.
The Bed was comfortable and warm coverings, truly slept well, bathroom spacious clean, hot shower, able of towels, spot on.
The Coniston Hotel is my haunt now when I arrive in Southport, and I'm passing it on to my friends, Thank you Claire and Derrick for being a real Host.
Diane Yates

Room Tip: Well if mine was a cozy and comfortable room, I'm sure Claire and Derrick do there best to make...

“Not Quite What We Expected”

We only booked into this hotel for the one night as a treat to ourselfs as we were going to see the fireworks in southport and go out for a meal.We arrived at hotel we were immediatly shown to our room not asked who we were ? i presume this is because we booked on line so our name would of been on their computer never the less they never mentioned it nor did they mention theirs untill i asked anyway the room number 4 (the family room) leaves a little to be desired the curtains were not hung properly well i mean hanging off the mis-matched rails, the sink has hot water coming out off the cold tap and guess what cold water from the hot tap, after walking over the loose floorboards to the wardrobe which is held up by what was a tile wedged under one corner i tried to put things in a draw only to find the drawers fall apart if you pull them open, the shower room never had a lock just a peep hope were the lock should be and the shower its self looked dangerous as i could easily put my fingers into the shower unit and touch the wires as there was part of the shower unit casing cut away to fit a pipe into it very badly done but then it went with the mis mached tiles in there, hey all this for £60 a night bargain !! don't think so smaller room with bunk beds for the rest off family was nice and the food was nice for breakfast . i chose this hotel by the reviews i read on trip advisor i presume most of the other rooms must be slightly better because the reviews i read were saying it was good, Sorry but if i can see this in the room what are the owners looking at ? can they not see the place needs attention,no i don't think it was cheap n cheerful or is this what people say when a place is substandard .

Room Tip: don't have number 4

“Basic B&B - very good value”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2011

We stayed for one night. Good welcome from the proprietor although smell of cigarette smoke in downstairs room a bit off-putting.

Room was basic but confortable (right at the top of the house). Free WiFi worked well.

Excellent cooked breakfast with fresh tomato (not tinned).

We would go back for a good, basic stay.
