“Friendly & central B&B, definitely recommended”

My friend and I spent 2 nights at Carlton Lodge whilst going to the Southport Music Weekender at Pontins (hence not much sleep had haha!). The owner (think Christine?) was absolutely welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Rooms were small but comfortable. Very central location for Lord St and the Promenade. We only managed breakfast on one of the mornings, there was plenty of choice on the breakfast menu, I had the full english which was scrumptious. Definitely recommend this B&B in Southport.

“Superb Breakfast and Great Value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 March 2010

As a mystery visitor I have stayed at and rated many 4 and 5 star hotels that could learn lessons from this simple and inexpensive bed and breakfast establishment. The room was spotlessly clean and comfortable with 2 easy chairs and everything a guest could want. The downside was the small en-suite but that was offset by plenty of thick, fluffy towels and rarely provided nowadays ... face flannels !
The breakfast was superb.... proper china butter and jam/marmalade pots, with none of those horrible little packets. No metal cafe teapots here and to top it all proper China that I think was crown derby!
The full English Brekafast was cooked to order with fresh orangey eggs, quality sausage, decent back bacon, fresh grilled tomatoes and scallop potatoes. Mixed Toast was thick, chunky and hot. You will not get a breakfast as good as this at the Vincent or the Scarisbrick.

Having stayed in other hotels in Southport this is the best. Great value for money.Christine is very welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. The only fault we could find is that the en suite a little on the small side. Bed is the most comfortable we have slept in when on holiday. Breakfast is AWESOME.
