“Wanted Cheap and Cheerful! Exactly what I got!”

Decided last minute late on Xmas eve that I didn’t want to make the 6 hour drive home on Xmas day after family celebrations and so had a look on laterooms.com. I wanted cheap and cheerful and Balmoral Lodge looked the part after reading a few reviews and so booked. I found free parking at the front of the property and on arrival was greeted so very warmly by a French lady and gentleman that I was instantly at ease. The room I was given was room 10 a very compact, ensuit room with a small flat screen TV on the wall. The room was in need of modernisation and was small with a portable heater in use as opposed to the radiator but the room seemed clean enough, the shower was very hot and powerful and the TV was in perfect working order. The room was very quiet and was what I had hoped for rather than 100% expected given the room rate. I went down for breakfast and again was greeted by the lovely French lady who had previously greeted me, she told me what was on offer and asked me if I wanted to order a fried egg. The hotel has a speciality coffee maker and I found there to be a more extensive range of continental items than id expected. The cooked breakfast items bacon/sausage were not premium Gourmet varieties but were palatable and again what I would expect given the room rate. I found the complementary internet access on a computer next to the reception a great perk as well. In summary I found that a room rate of under £25 on Xmas day which included fantastic service, free parking, clean functional bedroom which offered a quiet night sleep and free internet access as robbery on my part!. So much so that I tipped 30% of my room rate to remove the guilt! : ) The staff at Balmoral Lodge are a credit to the industry. I will undoubtedly visit again

“I didn't expect this.....”

As a contractor I travel quite a lot and often have to seek accommodation on short notice at a good price. I am allways worried about what I have booked as let's face it most pictures we see are off the best bits when it was new etc.... This is now going to be my first choice when working the Lancashire,Chesire,Blackpool areas. I cannot remember sleeping this well even at home! The owners couldn't have been better, everything was beyond all expectations. Would I recommend this place ? YES! ps, this to the owners if they read these reviews,I was the gas engineer who rebooked room 11,watch out for me I will be back,Thanks....

I was really impressed with the hotel for the price i paid - £49 for one night - room 7 on the first floor, and breakfast for three people plus all facilities you could need!

Good Points-
The rooms was nicely decorated with drink making facilities, TV , and hairdryer.
The best part was it was warm and the water hot!
Room and hotel was very clean and welcoming.
Off road parking!

Staff were friendly and helpful, both at check in and breakfast! Make an effort to talk to the owner as he's a lovely man and very friendly!

Bad Points- The matresses had seen better days and everytime i turned the bed creaked!
Breakfast was luke warm and the food quality is edible but standard! However for the price i can't complain!

Overall i would stay again , but you get what you pay for your money!

Foodwise - My family are locals and go to 'Bald arms' by botanic gardens a family friendly pub- the food is fantastic, with something for everyone and great value at two meals for £11. Also only a 5 minute drive from the hotel!

Room Tip: Foodwise - My family are locals and go to 'Bald arms' by botanic gardens the food is fantast...

Perfect for the lone traveller as the staff are very welcoming and helpful. The rooms are clean and comfortable and the hotel when I stayed there was very quiet - due to considerate guests rather than it being empty, I think. I would stay again.
