“How did they get 3 stars ?”

thought we had found ourself a bargain £25 each bed/breakfast/evening meal, plus free bottle of wine, what a disapointment. When we arrived were given a key for a room that hadnt been cleaned. Terrible parking situation as mrs cross explains.Staff didnt both to tell you that you find your own table and serve yourself that was left to other guests, had to ask for the wine and the food was something else the plates were the smallest dinner plates I had ever seen, veg ( corn and mushy peas) tinned, fish frozen, sweet frozen, No hot water

“WHAT A SHAME FOR THE SCARRISBRICK”

After coming to the SCARRISBRICK for over 3 YEARS, this recent stay WAS APPALLING. UNINTERESTED STAFF who weren't able to tellus any information. We had to ask for our free bottle of wine, which we should have got when we booked in.the room was ok, spacious, but no HOT WATER and we had to use a MOBILE HEATER. We went to 'dinner' but after seeing a dry salad, bits of dried salmon and a chunkof meat which you had to carve yourself, we decided to go to ASK RESTAURANT instead to get a decent meal, WHICH WE HAD TO PAY ANOTHER £40 FOR. Breakfast was just as dismal, and after WAITING FOR QUARTER OF AN HOUR, we had to hunt someone down to ask for coffee. There were lots of trollies whizzing past, hardly a relaxed breakfast. We had to LET OURSELVES OUT OF THE PLACE BY OPENING GATES OURSELVES, and I NEARLY TRIPPED OVER A RANDOM BOX which was just in the way. WHAT A LETDOWN Whether its changed through Brittania taking over, I don't know, but something has gone drastically wrong.

“A once good reputation destroyed by poor management and bad housekeeping.”

Oh dear, what a disappointment, if you ask anyone to name a hotel in Southport their first would be Scarisbrick Hotel, but you would now say " I wouldn't recommend it",which is a shame because it could be so much better with just a little bit better management of their staff and a good cleaning schedule in place, it would improve things greatly.

“waste of time”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

I could well be doing this Hotel down unfairly but since we never even got to see the inside of it I will probably never know !!
The car parking situation at this hotel is an absolute shambles. There are 3 car parks all up a tiny alley-way (blink and you will miss it), the first holds about 4 small cars, the second up the ramp holds a few more but very tightly packed and across the road from that there is another one and in all 3 there is not enough spaces to go round so you would be very lucky indeed if you managed to get one. We were hoping to stay at this hotel just for one night as a treat to ourselves for what would have been a bargain price of £25 for the room. However due to the lack of car parking for the hotel and given how busy Southport town centre is in general there was absolutely nowhere nearby for us to park ...... apart from a pay and display car park at the back of the hotel which would have ended costing us almost as much as the room to leave the car there overnight.
We rang the hotel to ask them if they had any suggestions where we might be able to park but recieved a standard "theres nothing we can do, its just first come first served" answer. We then asked if we could therefore cancel the room as we had nowhere to put the car and they said they would still charge us as you have to cancel before 2pm on the day of arrival, even though you cant check in before 3pm so obviously we only arrived at 3 and didnt know till then that we couldnt park !!! eventually they did back down and said they would waive the charge but despite this it was still extremely disappointing to have to turn around and go home again after having looked forward to a nice treat of a hotel stay for the night. So i'm sorry, this may well be a nice enough hotel but as we never got chance to even step foot in it we will never know ! and i can only advise on the fact that if you want to stay here you either make plans well in advance for your car or park outside of the town somewhere and get the bus/train and then walk to the hotel !

Room Tip: choose another hotel with adequate parking facilities !!

“Great stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

arrived for a three night stay on the winter break special. Couldnt have friendlier receptionist staff. A few problems but when spoke to the reception all was fixed with a smile and asked for extra milk, tea and coffee as staying for a few days and this was supplied in a plastic bag with a smile too! Breakfast was unbelievable everything you can think of was on offer hot or cold. The choice of bars and drinks and meals was great even if we didnt take advantage of all of them due to our stay being cut short by ill health. The recepitionist organised someone to help me with bags as my partner was not well and it was not a problem. The decor is dated but that added to the charm of the stay. Would not hesitate to stay there again. Very central to all shopping and main streets. Lots of coffee shops and other eateries if you dont want to stay in the hotel. JD Wetherspoon are down the street both ways that do meal deals - handy if you are staying a few days. The street opposite also has little pubs down it with meals.
All in all a very enjoyable stay after a daunting few minutes when reading some of the reviews. Yes the water does take a few minutes to get hot but it is hot when it comes in - this is stated in the bathrooms so nothing of a surprise. We asked for another duvet as the one on the bed was not warm enough but once again it was no trouble for them to find one for us. We will be coming back Thanks to all the staff who made it a real treat to stay there.
