“The Good, The Bad and The Slightly Odd”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

Booked 4 night mid week stay. Cannot fault hotel position or view from room of the sea and beautiful beach below. Had upgraded to a premier room which was large and warm with a modern four poster and sofa facing the sea view. Shame the carpet was dirty and the bathroom just average and chilly. The bedcover was stained but quickly changed when I asked but the toilet was not clean-I asked for this to be done but it didn't happen. Lot of dust behind the bed and grubby paintwork. Bit weird the view of the large tv was obscured by the bed post! Mattress could have been comfier too. Worst thing was the restaraunt experience-absolutely freezing and all meals were served at a frantic pace, maybe to counteract the cold or stop the guests turning blue! 3 course meal completed in 50 minutes, and that was with me asking the staff to give us a break between courses! Another weird experience was asking for wine at the table but being told to collect it ourselves from the upstairs bar-maybe saving on staff as the receptionist seemed to double as bar lady!! (The bar adjoining thr restaraunt remained firmly shut). The food was average at best, although the puddings were nice and filling and warming! One reviewer mentions the toast, so thin it was almost transparant!! We requested afternoon tea one day as the menu says "selection of cakes". We were offered a slice of prepacked fruitcake, prepacked biscuits or crisps!!!!!!!!!! Never had crisps for afternoon tea before! In fairness however the receptionist/waitress/barlady did manage to find some teacakes as a peace offering! I am a great believer in "you get what you pay for" and at about £60 pppn DBB you won't get 5 star luxury, but you should get a clean room and be able to eat in a warm environment. Would we go again or recommend to friends? The answer is yes, but only to an upgraded sea facing room and to enjoy the hotels superb position.

Room Tip: Sea facing and upgrade a must

I am sorry to read that you experienced some problems during your stay with us. I have spoken to the housekeeper regarding the problems you experienced in your room and she will be speaking with her team members. I am surprised you found the bathroom ‘just average’ as they are brand new modern bathrooms with excellent facilities including a separate shower and bath and a heated towel rail which should have heated the room adequately.

We normally receive excellent feedback regarding the restaurant and food and I am sorry you felt the standard was low. We do have wine waiters in the restaurant so I will be getting to the bottom of why you were asked to go upstairs for drinks. The downstairs bar is only opened on evenings when we have entertainment on in the lounge.

I am pleased to read that you felt your stay represented good value for money and rest assured that we value your feedback and it will be used to improve standards and service at the hotel. I am glad the problems you experienced have not put you off returning.

Kind Regards

“5 day Shearings coach trip”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

Slightly above average coach hotel. Public area excellent but bedroom tired. Staff very good..
Bedroom and bathroom needed revamp. Heavy condensation on window made sea view no use.

Thank you for your review. I would like to think that we are certainly better than a ‘slightly above average coach hotel’ and the fact that you have rated us four stars makes me think you perhaps did too. The public areas have had a huge amount of investment and our bedroom refurbishment is marching on.

“Major improvements needed.”

We arrived for a special weekend with another couple. On arrival we were kept waiting as there was no one on reception and I had to go and look for someone even though we had rung the bell several times. We had been told we could upgrade our room to a premier room but as there was only one left, my partner and I were lucky enough to be allocated this. However the other couple were allocated a sea view room.

Our room was really gorgeous with a fab balcony and stunning sea view. However, the other couple had to change rooms as the room allocated was very warm and the windows would not open. The other room they had was better but still the windows would not open and they hardly slept due to this. This made us feel very guilty and as there were only 18 guests altogether in the hotel, we felt that the hotel should have made more of an effort to allocate a room with windows that opened.

The entertainment was really good and we enjoyed that, but beware the bar closes at 11pm and there is no chance of a drink after that, not even a coffee!!

Breakfast was awful as it was luke warm and the waiter was rude when I asked for some hot toast, not something that I would expect from a hotel like this and I am glad now that didn't opt for the dinner option.

We wont be staying again. The hotel needs to update their basic rooms and make repairs to the windows and some of the staff need to improve their attitude!!!!

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a premier room and one with windows that open

I am saddened to hear that you were not entirely happy with your recent stay, especially after you spoke with me directly at check out and discussed the points you have raised here. I did speak with the restaurant and kitchen staff and they are addressing the problems you experienced. We did upgrade you to a premier room at a discounted rate but unfortunately only had one left. Your friends did not mention the problem with the window until they were checking out, as you say the hotel was very quiet and we could have easily moved them had they approached us.
As you will see from other positive reviews on this website such as “Thoroughly enjoyable weekend. Thank You.” From last month most guests praise the quality of food and friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. It is disappointing to read you would not consider staying with us again but should you change your mind please contact me directly and I will ensure your parties room requirements are met.

Kind Regards

I.e. "Good in parts" When we arrived the very pleasant receptionist welcomed us and said that as they were not very busy, we were upgraded to a Premier room. The view was amazing and the room was huge - however it only had a normal double bed, so why not a king size bed? As we arrived during a cold snap we had to ask to additional heating which was promptly provided. But downstairs in the restaurant - it looks OK with it's cliff hanging position but it was freezing throughout our stay to the extent we needed to put warm clothes on. There are only 3 radiators in the whole area which is hopelssly inadequate. The service was very good from some very attentive staff but the food was jsut OK. However we did feel it was not quite right to be laying up for breakfast before residents had finished dinner. And breakfast - OK until the toast - we did not realise that you could still get THIN sliced bread which was used for toast..
We notice that previous critics have mentioned the so called Superior rooms - we had paid extra for one of these because as their brochure clearly states .they have "fantastic sea views" - I am not convinced that the "Superior " rooms do have "fantastic sea Views" because on checking our original room number it was facing inland. So be warned, if your book a Superior room -it must have a fantastic sea view or you have been misled. And then if you are upgraded to a Premier room, you will only have a standard double bed - albeit a four poster (big deal !).

Room Tip: If you want a sea view and that is almost a must at this hotlel - make sure your booking includes on...

Your review is a little disappointing to read as it contains some false information which I hope will not deter future guests. You were indeed upgraded from a twin superior room to a premier sea view room with a king sized bed at no extra charge. I am glad that you were more than happy with your room. We have two superior rooms in the hotel and the twin is town facing, the other superior double and all six premier kings are sea facing. Perhaps you have a super king at home and for this reason mistook our king for a double? There is no reason at all for the inland rooms to be noisy, they are on a very quiet road which is rarely used during the night and is closed to traffic in summer.
I am of course very disappointed to hear that your visit was spoilt as you felt the restaurant was cold, I wasn’t aware of any problem the weekend you stayed. We did of course have the heating on fully and all the radiators turned to their highest setting. There are actually eight radiators in the restaurant/lounge area.
I do hope that you enjoyed your stay enough to return again at some point in the future and we look forward to welcoming you then.

Kind Regards

“Friendly, accommodating, and wonderful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

Although this review is a bit late in coming, we were so impressed by our stay that we had to post this even though it has been almost 5 months since we stayed at the Imperial Tenby Hotel.

My husband and I were there during Ironman Wales in early September. We stayed at the Imperial for three nights and was pleasantly surprised the both breakfast and dinner were both included each night we stayed. They had a very nice dining room set into the cliff overlooking the beach - gorgeous view. The manager was so helpful with any and everything we asked for, even going out of his way to give us some rope when we needed to tie down my husband's bike to the roof of the car on our way out of town. Additionally, the hotel was extremely accommodating when it came to all the athletes' needs - with a 7am start time, the staff were all up and preparing food in the wee hours of the morning. Where they found the time to also decorate the lobby and elevator with balloons and homemade signs is beyond me. They truly went the extra mile to make sure everyone felt special, which was greatly appreciated.

This many months later, I can't remember the name of the gentleman who managed the hotel, but I know he was from Cardiff and I just wanted to say thank you again for making our trip so memorable!

Room Tip: Ask for the ones facing the water - it is amazing how far the tides go in and out. At high tide, you...

It is great to read that you had such a fantastic stay with us during the Ironman Wales, albeit somewhat after the event! Many thanks for making the effort to find time to post your excellent review. We will be getting ourselves ready to do it all again in a few months time. Hopefully we will be welcoming you back then.
