“Basic, outdated”

I stayed on this site recently with two other couples, all having young children.

Where do I start?

1. Toilet conditions - dirty all of the time, the idea of cleaning seemed to be to pour a bucket of water on the floor and let it dry.
2. Two urinals and three male sit down toilets for the whole site.
3. Showers, very small, if anything is inside the shower area, expect it to get wet. Also, unless you have tiny shoulders, don't expect to turn around in there. Lack of anywhere to hang anything including washbag. Another treat in store if you use the third shower on the right (again only three to cover whole site), expect to be standing in other peoples shower water as they all go to the drain in this shower, this is particularly nice if somebody has bypassed the toilets and peed in the shower. Choose your shower time wisely, as hot water is hit and miss.
4. Push button taps - these stay on one second at most, so you have to be a magician to be able to wash your face without keeping one of your hand on the tap. No plugs. You also have to guess which tap is which, for some reason all taps appear to be marked as the hot tap.
5. Games room - this is an old portakabin which looks like it need to be condemned
6. Electric hookup - This is a 6 amp supply, so if you need to use electrics, expect to be going back and forth to reset the box.
7. Water Supply - Tap in the middle of the field, which empties onto two bricks, this creates a lovely muddy puddle, if like my son you watch peppa pig, then expect them to get muddy.
8. Being in the Waste Management industry, I was quite surprised to see them burning their site waste in an old skip, I am sure the EA would have something to say about this. If the owners are reading this, I suggest you stop this immediately.

With more and more people holidaying in the Uk and spending a lot more money on camping equipment, we expect standards to be better, basics such as plenty of clean toilets / washing facilities are a must. This site is basic and outdated, unless you are the type of camper who just likes camping in a field, I would suggest looking elsewhere in Tenby.

“A lovely, long awaited holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 August 2010

Pros:
The friendly owners/staff.
The simplicity and down-to-earth atmosphere.
The ability to buy breakfast and an evening meal on site (which was a huge weight off our minds with small children, and no car).
A room to sit, relax, drink a pint, and chat.
Plentiful loo roll!
The huge space for lots of different groups of children to play different games.
The closeness to the railway station.
The lovely walk to the village, castle and beach.
The ability to borrow a picnic table (again, great when you don't have a car).
The warm showers (if you're up early enough!).
Good old fashioned camping fun!

Cons:

There were only two things I disliked:

The first was the noisy teenagers when my little ones were trying to get off to sleep ..... but not really much the owners could do about that!

The second was the campsite opposite had a very loud Saturday evening, which we could hear quite clearly, from the back of our campsite - again nothing the owners can do to limit this.

“Location great.....service poor”

Not long came back from a long weekend here. This was our first time camping and we have to say it was only "okay". Check-in was alright once we found someone to check us in....our pitch was great.....nice and flat and dry. Only bugbear was noise coming from other tents and tourers very early in the morning....like before 7.30am...not so good when you have a child. The ladies toilets were clean and in good supply 6 of them....only trouble was there was only 1 sink....which came as rather a shock. No hooks on toilet doors to hang bags or other belongings. Shower block held around 4-5 showers, with only 1 of them having a holder to sit your shower gel/shampoos etc which luckily i managed to get. Don't know how i would have coped with all my stuff in any of the other ones. Fish & Chip trailer was hardly open....2 nights of our stay.....don't forget this is JULY too!!! Also disapointed as watched world cup in the bar/cafe area which was signed as open until 10.30pm.....they told us to leave at 10.10pm as they wanted to close. Very disgusted with this especially as we paid to have a meal there and drinks and was using the pool table. This area was also signed as open everyday but did not open for the last 2 days of our stay. The games room is not worth them listing as an attraction as none of the machines worked. The machines consisted of a large football table that had numerous stones thrown in it.....a driving game, a grabber machines, another machine to get a blow up ball out of (lucky dip type), 2 slot machines and a quizz machine all encased in a small porter cabin which was always open...but no power!!!!! (Warning....if you do want a meal there....or a drink....watch out for the tea towel bits that cover everything. My plate and cup was covered in the stuff....very un-hygenic and unsafe!!!)
If you want a site that is clean in a nice location and has reasonable showers, toilets, washing facilities then you won't go wrong here. Outside of that don't expect this place to move mountains for you as our experience wasn't the best.
The garden centre opposite has a tea room that is open everyday that serves decent breakfasts and meals at reasonable prices....also very friendly and flexible with their menu items with breakfast. Local shop about 3/4 of a mile away towards Pembroke was fantastic. Very helpful, stocked most things you would need and also had a camping/surfing items in a separate small building to the left of the main shop. Village pub served great home cooked food and has pool table for children in the family room.

“Nowhere near the best facilities of other campsites”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 August 2008

After having got up at 5.30 Sunday morning, loading the car & trailer with all that goes with camping, my wife, two daughters & myself eventually began our long journey to Buttyland. We were especially excited as this day was the first full sunny, dry day we had had this summer and the next couple at least were to be the same.
We arrived at Buttyland approximately 12.15 after a really nice, relaxing drive without any hitches or heavy traffic.
First impressions of the site were good. Two big fields with mainly caravans in the one to the right, tents on the left. We checked in at reception where we were given the basic rules of the camp ( e. noise, pets etc.,) and then shown to our choice of pitch which included electric hook up. We were able to erect our tent in brilliant sunshine and looked forward to our next 5 days. However, things started to take a downturn from Monday morning. We all got up around 7 o'clock and went to have a shower. The shower block is very basic and has just 3 showers. The "hot" tap on my shower just completeley rotated and had no
use whatsoever. There was a push button hot tap which I had to press continuosly and a cold tap which wasn't needed because the water wasn't that hot anyway. It was a case of trail and error with the sink taps as they both had red tops indicating they were both hot water taps. During our stay, we all experienced having a virtually cold shower due to the lack of hot water.
The washing up facilities were located right outside the toilet doors ( and I mean RIGHT outside! ) which wasn't very pleasant. The toilet seat in the ladies loo was broken for at least 3 days.
Paper towels and soap were frequently empty.
There was a washing machine and dryer but the dryer cost 20p and wasn't very good according to people we asked and would probably cost us about £3!
The waste bin area was right next to the washing facilities and at one point, both green bins were full with everyone's black bin bags and everything else they wanted to throw on it, including a broken gazebo, thrown on top. The amount of rubbish piled up high for a good few days which could have encouraged vermin.
There was a glimmer of hope when, on the way in, we did spot a table tennis table outside the small games room until we got up close and saw what a poor, delapidated condition it was in.
To summarise, the new owner should plough a bit more money into his campsite and maybe future reviews will have a little more positive nature to them. In my opinion, there are far better sites to choose from.
