This is by far the best guest house I have experienced in Ilfracombe. I stayed here the night before the wedding (at Tunnels Beaches) and got ready here on the day, along with several family members (age range from 18-78!). I was originally recommended Varley House by a work colleague, and i'm so glad I took note. Ilfracombe is a very quiet place but Varley House is located in a very peaceful area. It is about 4/5 mins drive to Tunnels beaches (perfect if you have a wedding to go to) and probably about 10-15 minute walk to the harbour and town although up hill on the way back, but a taxi only costs a few pounds from the town so not a problem if you don't fancy it. The rooms are spotlessly clean and the breakfast was lovely. The views from some of the rooms are stunning! Rod and Helen, are very friendly and accommodating. The single room I stayed in was perfect, plenty of space for one and the mattress was so comfy I even got a good nights sleep the night before my wedding! The building itself is really attractive and of good size which pictures do not do justice, it also has a very relaxed homely feel inside. The night of the wedding, myself and the groom stayed in a very expensive guest house in Ilfracombe and honestly, I would have preferred to have come back to Varley House. No complaints from any of the family and we look forward to returning. Would recommend it to anyone.

having arrived early we were still shown the room and we were given a key for when the room was ready,the hotel is set in a peaceful location with great views and a short distance to some great walks along the coastal path,rooms were clean and the breakfast was worth getting up for,if you want a hotel to relax in varley house is ideal we would definatley go back...

Our whole family stayed at Varley House for my eldest daughters wedding which was held at Tunnels Beaches in Ilfracombe.
From the minute we arrived to the minute we left we were treated like Royalty - nothing was too much trouble for Rod & Helen.
The place is completely spotless! We were relaxed from the minute we walked in the door (which is no mean feat when you have a family wedding the next day!) They even managed to accommodate an extra person on both nights (I think they have expanding walls!)
I would highyly highyly recommend this Hotel to anyone who was thinking of staying in Ilfracombe. In fact, we wouldn't think of staying anywhere else should we return to Ilfracombe.

Unlike some B&Bs the owners were happy for you to arrive any time from 3pm to 10pm; you didn't have to be more specific than that when booking. The welcome was very warm and we were offered tea and biscuits before being shown to our room. The room had a four poster bed, which was picturesque but slightly too big for it, not leaving much space to get around in. We had a deadline in the morning but this was not a problem as the cooked to order breakfast arrived very promptly. We made use of the offer of leaving our car there for the week while we went off to Lundy island and the owner was very helpful with these arrangements. Varley House is located outside of the centre of Ilfracombe but this makes it easy to get to by car but within 15 minutes walk you can be at the quayside.
