“Slightly depressing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 December 2011

We stayed for one night recently after enjoying a surperb meal in Stephen Dedmans new onsite restaurant, which we wouldhighly recommend.

Sadly our first reaction on seeing our room (no.101) was not favourable the main problem being the slate grey decor and the strange mixture of styles in this huge bedroom.I mean traditional dado rails, modern oak furniture and a weird suspended halogen lighting rail. However every possible need for the business user was provided free of charge as were soft drinks in the fridge. We also found it a little unusual for of this calibre of hotel to only have a duvet on the bed with no counterpane, even Travelodge give you that,so you can lie on the bed without soiling the duvet with your feet.

The bathroom was also of very generous proportions the only downside being the onset of rot to the skirting boards where the shower had been leaking, not appealing!

The staff were very obliging and friendly, nothing being too much trouble.

So if you fancy a traditional style hotel with tartan carpets ,oak paneling, excellent staff and a superb restaurant, then give the Regency a go,but try to get a discount as the price is a little on the high side.

Oh I forgot to mention that you take your chance with parking as the hotel relies on on street parking for guests and trying to negotiate the revolving door, the only way in,with a large case is entertaining to say the least.

Room Tip: Have a look at your room before you accept it,front rooms are much better

“Staff and food excellent, rooms terrible.”

I've stayed in the Regency on several occasions in the past couple of months and while the staff and food are outstanding, the rooms I've been allocated really disappoint. On my last visit, I was given the smallest room I've ever had in a hotel and that includes several stays in Paris! Well appointed, yes, but without the space to open a decent sized suitcase.

With the tiny windows open, there was still no air, just the drone of the kitchen extractor fans from 06:20 to 11:30 at night. After 48 hours with the windows open - in October mind - the room was just about at a comfortable temperature.

A real shame as everything else is really well done.

“Excellent hotel for holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 October 2011

We stayed 5 nights recently, not on business (unlike most guests) but on our first visit to IoM, with friends. Would recommend this hotel - comfortable room, helpful and friendly staff, lovely location, bus stop right outside the door to airport, excellent breakfast, and a lift that made us giggle! This hotel has been thoughtfully updated and I loved the tartan carpet.

Room Tip: Ask for a seaside room, the view at low tide and sunrise is worth it

“Nice hotel with eh location”

Stayed at the Regency for a night in a suite. The room was very nice, especially by IoM standards, and very spacious. The elevator was...interesting. Old-fashioned and narrow, but it got the job done. Breakfast was good. I had a problem with my TV and someone came up in a minute or two to fix it. Definitely recommended if you don't need foot access to the city center or have a car.

“Awesome”

I had a very brief hotel visit-just one night and I was delighted to be immediately upgraded to the presidential suite. Huge room (s) with great TV, Internet, free minibar trouser press, DVD player x 2, hi-fi, iron with ironing board. Even an exercise bike in my room! An extremely comfortable bed with a very nice bathroom as well added to which there was a huge lounge area separate from the bedroom. I couldn't fault this hotel in any way and without any question give it a unanimous five stars throughout. The bar area (which unfortunately I didn't use) is very welcoming as is the wonderful restaurant. The staff are all extremely courteous, welcoming and seemed genuinely pleased to see guests as if they were seeing old friends. Well done everyone-you have got this one just right!

Room Tip: 408 was the room I stayed in
