Stayed here with family for a long weekend. The rooms were good with great views from the room at the front of the hotel and not much of a view from the side of the hotel as the windows overlooked a small yard. The rooms were very spacious with everything you need. I especially liked the Horlicks and decaf coffee. The two water bottles each day and the pocket size guide book were very useful as we were out all day exploring the island. The only tiny bad thing about our room at the front of the hotel was that it got really hot, but we opened the large windows, so it wasn't really a problem.
All the staff we encountered at this hotel were very nice, helpful and sercive minded. The hotel receptionist answered all our questions and sold us tickets for the trains and buses and gave us directions. The bar area is also very nice and not loud. We had drinks in the bar a couple of nights and the staff here are also very polite. There is also a computer with free internet access in the bar area wich was useful when we were looking up restaurants to go to in the evening. We had breakfast each morning and dinner once in the hotel's own restaurant. Breakfast was good, however the dinner was not what you would expect from a hotel, more like a cheap pub. The staff working in the restaurant are very nice and helpful, it is just a shame the food is not up to the same good level as their service.
The location of the hotel itself is set back a little bit from the promenade, but we still had a great sea view fro our room. The electric railway is within walking distance and so is the main area of the town, although it is a long walk to the main town especially if you have been out all day. There are very few pubs and restaurants in Douglas and they do not advertise themselves very well. If you are going to the steam railway I would recommend taking the bus rather than walking.
All in all, this is a very good hotel with everything you need and more in the rooms, very professional and friendly staff, however I would recommend eating out in the evening until they get their standard for the evening restaurant up.

Thank you for your review which was mainly positive. I note that you stayed in May which was a month after we parted company with the previous chef who had been with us for five years. His replacement is young and talented but at that stage quite new to his current level of responsibility and is learning all the time.
