“Lovely.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

We have stayed at this hotel a few times now and it has always been extremely good. In the past we have had balcony rooms in the Atrium, which are lovely. However, this time we had a sea view room (209) which was beautiful. It has a four poster bed which was very comfortable. There was a clever use of the bay window as a seating area which housed two comfy chairs, a coffee table, another small table, a standard lamp and a television.
There is plenty of wardrobe space, tea/coffee making facilites and a superb large bathroom with bath and seperate shower.
We had an evening meal at Sir Norman's which was as good as ever, as was the breakfast served in the Harris restaurant the following morning.
The place was spotless and all the staff were very friendly and helpful.
I should definately recommend this hotel and am looking forward to our next stay.

“great hotel, in great location.”

Can i just say on planning a trip to the island i looked at this hotel and was pretty much sold on it, but didn't book myself.

A relative on the island got me and my partner a very special rate as he has worked there in the past.

We stayed mid week in room 396, we dont normally stay in grand hotels usually opting for small boutique hotels or B&B's.

We loved the old style of the hotel giving it a step back in time which was cool as the isle of man does still like to keep its heritage, the lift systems were a bit new to us being such a large place but when we found our way to the room were amazed by the size, size of bed, size of bathroom, size of balcony and overall the facilities and furniture in the room.

The bed was massive not sure on the actual size but BIG. The balcony being a corner one seems to be much larger than the middle divided ones and the view in to the atrium and water gardens was brilliant, I enjoyed every moment spent out there with a bottle of wine and a book.

The bathroom had the luxury of both nice deep bath and separate shower, with large sink/vanity and mirror with toilet and bidet.

Cleanliness of the rooms and the hotel in general were good.

Well worth a visit and would have definitely paid the £110 rate per night.

Room Tip: The corner balcony seem to be larger than the middle room balcony's. So ask for one of them!

“Very nice hotel.”

Like other reviewers, I felt the decor a little tired in places. Apart from that, this hotel was lovely. We booked a package deal with ferry through 'Isle of Man Steam Packet' which was good value. The sea view room was a decent size with a sofa. The bathroom was also roomy with large bath and separate shower which had good pressure. Plenty of hot water was always available.
Buffet breakfast offered a good choice. We also had an evening meal in Sir Norman's bar. The food was tasty and service excellent.
All areas were spotlessly clean and all staff encountered were very polite and helpful.
I would definitely stay at this hotel again!

“Fading grandeur but good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

Good value for money, comfortable, good food and polite and helpful staff, but the building is a little bit down at heel and could do with some TLC, particularly in terms of carpets and decorating

“Best hotel in Douglas”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

Having stayed at a number of hotels in Douglas over the last three years I can confidently say that this is the best one having just returned from a four day stay. The service and food was top class, the room although a little old fashioned was spacious and had a view into the atrium which was beautiful. Sir Normans bar struck the perfect note between a lively atmosphere but in keeping with a four star hotel. We'll definitely book at the Sefton next time we stay in the Isle of Man.
