“SORDID”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 December 2011

Reception person was great but who ever owns this place needs to get a grip because it is under staffed and could do with fumigating. Del Boy and co would not even put their name to the decor in this place. Tele; toilet; window and shower all were broken. The food was the worst I have tasted in my life; reheated and recycled chips they already had traces of tomato sauce and salt on them uneatable; The room and bathroom was filthy what looked like pubic hairs in the bed and shower. Dirt accumulated under the bed and the walls had drink!! Stains or whatever dribbled down them. The website is completely misleading. I would never stay here again. I was booked to stay for a week but I left after one night. Imagine what the kitchen is like. You could not give this place a rating it should be closed down for a complete refurb.

“Disappointing meal”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 November 2011

We chose this hotel as the menu published on-line had a variety of vegetarian options. In reality there was one starter and one main course. The waiter (who did his best and was very nice) said the chef 'liked a challenge' so could make something else. The something else turned out to be the most disgusting plate of spaghetti I have ever eaten. Vegetarian food should not be a challenge! The hand cut chips that were supposed to accompany the fish were also bog standard frozen ones - all in all very disappointing to say the least! I emailed the hotel via the website but no response - the menu on the website is still on show giving a very misleading view of what's on offer! Fine dining it certainly is not!

“Restaurant Review”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 October 2011 via mobile

Decided to go out for an impromptu Saturday lunch and after our original choice told us that they stopped serving at 2 we called the Bayswell who asked what time we were arriving and when we said "just after 2" they said that that the chef would be happy to stay on!
We're glad the chef did. Generous portions of tasty pate with oatcakes and fresh bread for starters followed with fantastic fresh haddock in batter, humongous homemade beefburger and and a delicious risotto. We hadn't started out with the intention of having desert but couldn't resist. Happy to report that the crumble, bread and butter pudding and the sticky toffee pud are up to standard.

Despite the formal setting of the dining room (we were just planning on a Saturday pub lunch) we were put at ease by the other diners who I think were the owner and his family? It has to be said that the afternoon's scene stealer was 'Rocky' their French bulldog - so cute!

Hotel is a very stunning red sandstone building overlooking the sea, position excellent but some of the rooms were not quite finished and it left a bad impression. Staff very good, especially Louise who was in charge week-end we were there, food also very good this hotel is let down in that they don't take care of every detail, some light bulbs need replacing, toilets not always flushing, hot water not alEways working in wash hand basin.

“Just Not Right”

We were looking forward to spending a fews days at The Bayswell but on entering the hotel we were immediately dismayed. In their efforts to revamp the hotel the character of the house had been lost and the interior was dull and uninviting. Decoration, carpets and soft furnishings were either brown or beige and either badly applied or of poor quality. The curtains in our room were hanging off, one cup was chipped and the ceiling paint in the bathroom was flaking. We didn't stay a minute longer and booked out ... it was just not right .
