“A Fabulous Festive Time”

A huge 'thankyou' to Pauline , Nico & all their staff for making our Christmas so wonderful! We have had several stays at this hotel & have always enjoyed a warm welcome, comfortable rooms and great food. The service is exceptional & I particularly enjoyed my poached eggs in the morning, cooked to perfection.
At Christmas we took the oportunity to meet up with family whilst enjoying one of our best Christmas's ever. It was all lovely & we felt very pampered as we enjoyed a glass of champagne in our room before dinner . And WOW what a dinner, beautifully prepared, delicouse & service with a smile, their staff all seemed to join in and enjoy the lovely Chrismas atmophere. We felt so at home, relaxed & in great company. Already looking forward to the next time!!

Room Tip: just ask they have lots of options

“WONDERFULL FRIENDLY STAY”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

I Stayed here on the 18th Jan on business, when i arrived i found pleanty of parking with ease, the Hotel is very central and easy to find, i was greeted by the owner in the most friendly way, in the first 5 minutes she had informed me of everything and said i only have to ask if i required anything else, my room was very clean with the fresh ultra white bedding, so crisp, flat screen TV for your viewing with plenty of channels, ample tea and coffee on tap, en suite very clean with fresh white towels, also spare in the wardrobe, it was cold outside, but the room was very cosy indeed, when i went to the bar i was greeted by a very friendly Restaurant manager, Clint was his name and no he did not have a Stetson on, ha ha , he could not have been more helpfull if he tried, a rare quality, thanks Clint... the restaurant looked wonderfull, quite intimate, and pristine, i never ate there as i was meeting a collegue, but if the food is as good as the Quality breakfast, it will be spot on, there is an amazing relaxing lounge with a cracking open fire and the manditory ticking clock, what a place to chill !!! When i came down to breakfast, i was shown to my table by yet another super friendly guy, Lee was his name, as well as the attention to detail and fantastic service, we chatted over many things, felt at home, "where do you get these staff" Met up again with Clint at checkout, no problems at all........................what a great stay, will i be back............YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT, GONNA TAKE MY WIFE THE NEXT TIME, To all you viewers...you will not be dissapointed

Room Tip: I Believe rooms 1 and 23 are different

“Murder& Mystery a big disappointment”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 December 2011

people found this review helpful

We booked this night to take visiting friends having experienced these type of nights at other venues & had a great time. Ticket stated 7 for 7.30 and we arrived at 7.10. Nobody on reception. Rang bell, nobody came. Went through to the bar which was almost in darkness with the staff taking but they did put the lights on when we went up to the bar and were told to wait. 7.20 we were told we could go through to the function room where we found a number of 'Hen Night' groups, not what we expected at a Murder & Mystery night and having now checked with other venues we have attended they stipulate No Hen or Stag party's are allowed. 7.30 came & went and nothing happened apart from having to put up with very noisy Hen groups which made conversation impossible. We ordered a bottle of red wine from one of the waiting staff, this arrived and was 'plonked ' on the table with out a word Unopened without a word from the waiter apart from asking for the money. 8 o'clock came & went still nothing happened. It was not until 8.10 when yet another 'Hen Party' arrived did one of the 'Actors come out and went round some of the tables (not ours). Things finally got underway at 8.20 almost an hour late and I must say that for 'Christmas hotel food' it was very good, well presented and very tasty. Unfortunatly trying to make out the actors dialogue was difficult to listen to because of the 'Hen Party's'. Having a DJ set up his lights & music while the actors were attempting to tell the story did not help (one of the actors finally asked him to turn of the music and his flashing lights) what was turning in to a very amateur farce. even one of the bar men admitted it was not a very good night with all the noise from the very noisy Hen Groups. We left after the actors had finished having missed a large proportion of the dialogue. No Management on duty to complain to, and having written to them explaining our disappointment a week later have not bothered to reply. After advertising this a 'Murder & Mystery night' it would appear the management decided to change it to a Hen Night with Disco and would not start the evening until all the Hen Party's had arrived. Even if they had announced that there would be a delay because of that the delay might have been acceptable, but just to leave people waiting with no explanation is no way to treat paying guests as is changing it from a Murder & Mystery to a 'Hen Night'.

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotels Murder Mystery events. Thank you for the kind comments about the food. I am terribly sorry you did not receive a reply to the letter you sent as we respond to all letters. We never received your letter.
All of our events are open to anyone to attend and we do not enquire why people wish to attend. The event you attended was a festive event with crackers and turkey etc so some boisterous behavior was to be expected. We also only have a disco after the murder mystery for the festive evenings all our other monthly murder mysteries throughout the year are not followed by a disco.
We have a duty manager on site 24 hours a day, any member of staff would have been able to point them out to you.
Again we are very sorry that you did not enjoy our usually popular murder mystery dinners. If you wish to discuss this further please do not hesitate to contact the hotel.

“An outstanding Venue run by a professional hospitality team.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 November 2011

We held two major functions at the Maitlandfield Hotel this year, a Golden Wedding "Milestone
Memories" Lunch Party for 36 guests in the Three Kings Suite on the 4th March, and a Canadian/Scottish Family Get-together Dinner Party for 46 Guests in the main function suite on the 14th October, and wish to thank the Hotel owners, Pauline and NIco, for making our
parties first class in every way. The Quality meals were served with a smooth and faultless
service that was a credit to their ever-so-efficient and welcoming staff - and the prices for both
functions - with a four course meal and house wine selection - were excellent value and
ensured happy and satisfied guests. The table settings were splendid with white linen coverings, and a special thanks to "Fiona" for ensuring that the large party of guests had plenty dining space after having to extend and re-set the tables. This may possibly be the
only Hotel venue in East Lothian that can cater so perfectly for both small and large functions and I can readily recommend the Hotel, owners and staff, to anyone who wishes the professional touch to their function for any occasion. We were also offered good rooms for our guests at Special Occasion discount rates, but none were required - however, that thoughtful and attentive gesture was appreciated. We can highly recommend this Hotel for it's hospitality, welcome and service.

Room Tip: We were given access to the function area by the Hotel owners so that we could put our own touches...

“Pleasant part of the world”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2011

A really good welcome from the staff, who went out of her way to explain the hotel's facilities. Quite a small room but, again, very pleasant. Had a lovely walk before settling down in the pub down the road "The Tyneside Tavern" which I have to say was EXCELLENT. Everyone in teh town went out of their way to be welcoming. A great breakfast the next morning and, the place allows dogs. Not that I normally go away with my dog, but on this occasion I had to! Can't fault anything about the hotel or Haddington in general
