visited with friends for the murder mystery package. Dinner, bed and breakfast including the entertainment was £60. Was very good value for money. murder mystery entertainment was a bit cheesy but was good fun all the same. Food was nice but basic - could have done with some more flavour. Rooms were small but clean and amenities were exacly what you would expect. Enjoyed it so much I am returning with another group later this year.

Staff were OK. not great but certainly no problems either. The main issue is the size and quality of the rooms. It basically wishes to be a nice posh hotel but really it feels like an overgrown B&B. Food is OK - nothing to complain about but nothing to get excited about either. Its in a good location to explore East Lothian.

We stayed for 2 nights and upgraded to a suite which was huge. Room 1. The first room was refurbished which was nice but there was still a small bathroom which was not refurbished. Lovely staff, great food, good size car park. Nice area. Would return.

We have just returned after a weekend with our family staying at the Maitlandfield House Hotel.
The Maitlandfield is a charming old country house with a very nice restuarant, lovely gardens and kind and attentive staff.
The rooms are a mixture of sizes, from very small to very large . Some have bathrooms some only showers, but all our rooms ( we had booked 7 of them) were immaculate, cleaned thoroughly everyday, had limitless supply of hot water and plenty of towels. (The only thing missing was soap. The bathrooms had lovely quality shower/shampoo gel provided in a dispenser but it was too high up to use when in the bath!
( I am sure we would have been provided with some if we could have been bothered to ask.)
Water, tea and coffee making facilites are provided and topped up daily, We had 2 hairdryers in our rooms , flat screen tv and a trouser press which was very useful.
There was a wedding on when we stayed and we thought we might be disturbed by the noise, but we didnt hear a thing. Perhaps its the thick stone walls acting as sound proofing. We all enjoyed a good nights sleep. I should mention that the beds all appear to be new with very comfortable mattresses.
The chambermaids where all charming and there are plenty of staff here to cater for all your needs.
The reception team are on hand 24 hours ( night porters take over each evening) and
they couldn't do more for us.
I would say to other reveiwers that they should remember this isn't some large faceless modern hotel with identical rooms, it was once a family home and therefore you should expect all the rooms to be different. We all enjoyed ourselves thoroughly and look forward to returning again very soon.
