My daughter and her partner - both comming up to 20, booked for a night in this hotel.
They quite wrongly when arrived entered hotel with a friend (who was staying with his family in another place) The friend has met them to show location of this hotel. Piers the manager informed my daughter that the person not staying at hotel was not allowed in, which is quite correct and my daughter then dealt with it and asked friend to wait outside. After going to room, my daughter and her partner then went along sea front for a walk and whilst there my daughter who has a colonoscopy, had a mishap and needed her partner to return to the room for extra items of clothing as she was unable to make it back herself. Unfortunately, her partner plus friend (as males panic in this situation) both went back to collect her medical bag and was met by Piers who then unhappy about this and stated that the rules had been broken as the friend had again entered the building and he didnt care that it was an emergency and proceeded to telephone my daughter on her mobile to inform her that both her and partner were to leave straight away. My daughter was distraught at this and tried to explain the situation but to no avail. I telephone Piers to discuss this but was told that they had broke the rules and were to leave and that he didnt like the look of them anyway. This then left my daughter and partner with nowhere to stay. Piers, Understandably yes they broke the rule about non patrons entering your hotel, but they were respectfull, they did not cause any damage, you just didnt like them and you were wrong to throw a young disabled female out that had just driven 3/4 hours to get there. They are well brought up young people who just wanted to meet their friend and spend a weekend away as a respite for my daughter who had spent an awful lot of time in hospital, You showed no compassion when I spoke to you and made disrespectfull remarks about young people who you did not take the time to know. My daughter has travelled to many places around the world with her family and always stayed in much more elaborate accomodation. They had nowhere to stay and my daughter was extreemly exhausted from the journey. Any person with a colonoscopy will equate with the situation my daughter found herself in, and wil identify with why she could not move and return herself to hotel. Her partner was concerned for her and needed to reach her required medical things and change of clothing for her and it just went out of his head about your rule. For this I apologised to you myself on the telephone but you were not willing to accept. You were unreasonable and unwilling to accept explanation. We understand hotel rules and always abide by them, just this once it was forgotten by 2 panicky young males trying to help their partner/friend. Thank you for you compassion!!!!!!

My mum has just come back from a week at The Cosmopolitan and as asked me to write this review. "What a fantastic hotel. The hotel is a few metres from the sea front of Paignton. The hotel is spotless, well decorated and spacious" Pier the host could not do enough for my mum. Would certainly recommend this hotel and will deffinately be going back.

Just returned from a fabulous 3 nights at the cosmopolitan. Possibly the most up market B&B we have ever stayed in. Piers is a gentleman who has a vested interest in his livelyhood and does not want to leave anything to chance. Piers spoke to us about possibly having left the front door open, this resulted in Piers finding people in the hall. We apologised if the error had been ours and made certain on every return that we had shut the door securely. Lets face it if our room had been broken into we would have been well miffed. The following morning Piers apologised to us, he had reviewed his CCTV and found it was not us that had left the door open. Yes Piers was around most of the time, he lives there!! and in a way that was reassuring that he took the time and trouble to be around and greet his guests. Our room was fab, food was great and nothing appeared to bve too much trouble. Piers did ask us about our plans for the day, again a nice gesture. Thank you Piers, we will return

I booked a couple of nights away with my girlfriend for our anniversary. We had been looking forward to this and was impressed with the look of the hotel from the website.
We were pleased with the room and the location of the hotel, apart from the limited sea view as it was facing another building instead of the sea.
Unfortunately whilst using the flush on the toilet the button on the toilet sprung off and was flushed. We went to tell Piers the manager but he was occupied with another guest who turned out to be a hotel grader. On our return from a day out we went to our room to drop our things off and then to talk to Piers about the situation, but before we got a chance to he came to our room to question us about it.
My girlfriend explained what happened but he seemed less than believing in her explanation which made things awkward and said it would cost us £15 to replace it. We understood that we should pay for damages and agree with this as we are mature adults but feel aggrieved as ultimately it was a faulty appliance.
The following morning when we were due to depart I was going to bring up the situation, but Piers said that he didn't want to leave on bad terms and offered to pay half of the price (£7.50). We felt like we had to pay this compromised price as it was an uncomfortable situation and wanted to leave.
Aswell as this to make things alot worse as we were ready to leave with our bags, he spoke to us like children getting told off which we found patronising and condescending. He said "don't take this the wrong way but in the interests of hygiene, I always put the toilet seat down before I flush as when the water hits whatever you are flushing, thousands of particles dissipate into the air. As you are aware the toilet faces the sink in which your toothbrushes are kept and do i need to say anymore?".
This is not how people our age should be spoken to especially as we are guests and paid good money to stay there.
Unfortunately, our two days memories of Paignton are of this altercation which spoiled our holiday. We have stayed in other 4 star hotels (Paris and Edinburgh) and have not been treated this way before.
