“OK but not good enough for us”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2011

We stayed here and the room was clean. The food was also OK but on some days toast was burnt and on others toast was not even toast! When we booked on the phone the lady said that we were on the ground floor over looking the back garden. When we got there, she says we were on the top floor. The lady says that they dont use the ground floor to rent out but we made friends that stopped on the ground floor. The problem was that my grandad had to stop halfway up the stairs because he has diabetes, OCD and he has had a heart attack and stroke. there was no spoon for making a cup of tea in our room, we asked for one and the lady went all strict and said "Oh, i'm sure i put one in there" in a very posh voice. She then accused us for STEALING a spoon to put in our room. It was only for a cup of tea. Plus there are some rules that are not said until you get there. £25 fine for bringing a take away or ordering one. £75 fine for smoking and £25 fine for getting the towels dirty. WHAT?! For this, Rowcroft lodge is definatly NOT the hotel we are going back to.

Room Tip: It is boiling hot on hot days i your room. You can't even BREATH.

“BEST B&B IN DEVON?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 August 2011

This is such a lovely guest house I cannot believe anyone could find fault with it! When I read the detrimental reviews here for this wonderful holiday destination I wondered if the people actually stayed there or somewhere else!
I made a point of asking the owners to show me every room because one reviewer claimed that the room they stayed in was very small - there are no small rooms there - they are all of a decent size and some are very large.
Another reviewer claimed the hotel is filthy - that is such a lie I am surprised the owners didn’t respond.
Let's be clear - the Rowcroft Lodge (which I am told has never in its history been called the Rowcroft Beach Hotel) - is clean, comfortable and convenient for the beach and the Goodrington Park opposite.
The Rowcroft makes an ideal base for families, couples or people like myself who are travelling alone. There is parking front and back and guests can also park in the road outside - I never had any problem - and of course it is free!
If you are travelling to Paignton by train or bus call the hotel in advance and they will arrange pick-up.
My room was very comfortable with tea and coffee making facilities, flat-screen tv with Freeview and a lovely power-shower!!!
And the food - what can I say - absolutely amazing - so much choice, very well-cooked and served by friendly and efficient staff.
The Rowcroft is pet friendly and there are three rooms which are specifically for dogs but you will have to arrange a booking direct as you cannot book pets via the internet.
Mine hosts Les and Cynthia deserve nothing but praise for the way they operate this superb B&B - which gets my vote as the best in Devon!!

Room Tip: Book early
