FIRSTLY,do not under any circumstances, attempt to book to stay here.The place should not even be trading,We payed upfront for 3 nights and checked out after 1 night. freezing cold everywhere in the place ,workmen on the roof,plaster on the stairs and in our room from roofers working,tv not working, toilet would,nt flush,stains on the bed sheets.No staff apart from 2 alien brothers who look dirty and scruffy, they cook your breakfeast, say no more,be carefull,you have been warned.Also it is in a very bad location about 20 mins hike back from lake up a very very very steep hill.Also had a lot of problems getting my money back for the 2 outstanding nights they tried to not give me a refund. they are horrible conmen,Beware,you have been warned.

I booked a room for 3 nights through bookdirectrooms.com. The rate per night was discounted to half the normal price per night. I was called up a few days later by the owner and he said that the rate i had paid was wrong and he wanted me to pay him double per night. I phoned up bookdirectrooms customer service and they said that they could do not do anything as the owner of the B&B can change their mind and this is stated in their terms and conditions. They did state that the discounted price I had paid was agreed by the B&B, and it was not bookdirectrooms mistake. I had booked for bank holiday weekend and I am guessing that the owner had desperate people willing to pay the full rate last minute. I cancelled the booking and recieved a full refund.

This is probabaly one of the best Band Bs we have used
It was beautifully decorated, very comfortable beds and Geoff and Howard were so hospitable.
Of course the breakfasts were the MAIN EVENT - good local food - fabulous bacon and sausages and more. Thankyou Howard.
We also appreciated their local knowledge, being able to use the lounge in the evenings
and the friendly atmosphere.
Parking in the street was good.
Hope to be able to visit again.

Just back from 2 nights in the family room at the Melbourne Cottage in Bowness-on-Windermere. Family room consists of a double bed and bunk beds all of which were very comfortable and an en-suite toilet/shower room. The breakfast served in the morning was excellent and of a size that would satisfy the most hearty of eater's. The location of the Melbourne Cottage is just minutes away from the bars, restaurants and shops of Bowness and parking was relatively easy to find in an adjacent street that didn't have residents parking restrictions. I'd recommend it to friends and family and would look to book here again next time we visit Bowness. Thank you Melbourne Cottage for a very pleasant stay.
