“first class hotel!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 December 2011

I stayed here for 1 night with my girl pal as a christmas treat!!
Its hard to find hotels in Bowness that do 1 night stays at weekend but thanks to Booking.com we found this gem.
Couldnt fault anything, we had a Garden Chalet which was very large 1 double and 1 single bed and a lovely clean bright bathroom.
Reception was warm and welcoming with pleasant staff hepful staff.
After a lovely evening in Bowness and a good night sleep we headed into the hotel for breakfast - great selection of fruit and cereals. Excellent selection of hot choices. Good attentive service.
All in all i would recommend this hotel to anyone. Thanks for making our night away great.

“Hope to stay again”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 November 2011

We (2 adults and a 2 year old) stayed for 2 nights and had an enjoyable stay. We found the staff and service welcoming and efficient without being pushy. We thought the hotel did live up to the description on its website and to the comments from other trip advisor reviewers. As vegetarians we were pleased by the vegetarian section on the menu (with several options) rather than the usual single (V) or "special diets catered for on request" we usually see elsewhere. For myself I was also pleased that they had not followed the current fashion for dumping goats cheese on every veggie option which we encountered several times elsewhere in the lake district. We enjoyed the food but the breakfasts deserve a special mention with a great range of fresh fruit plus all the usual options. Perhaps the best test of a hotel is what happens when something goes wrong. Our hot water supply failed and I reported it at what looked like a bad time when the main dinner service was under way. However, a member of staff immediately left to deal with the problem and we were told it was working again before we had even finished our first course. We would be very happy to stay at this hotel again.

“Wonderful night's stay”

My wife and I tried to book a hotel that I have stayed at a number of times but their email, you cannot book online, said they had no room but that I should try their sister hotel……why did they not check if they had availability and have them contact me, I ask!

No such problems with the Burn How and I was booked immediately for the following night at an excellent rate and duly arrived to a wonderfully warm welcome from Melissa who was to prove not only to be an excellent receptionist but also waitress and fount of knowledge!

We were given a large room in the house across the way and found it more than acceptable, in an older Lake District type way, spacious, very clean and very comfortable. Special praise for the modern bathroom with very good size bath to rest those aching limbs after a day’s leisure activities!

One downside was that the free WiFi was not available in this room, although Melissa indicated that it should be and may be because of the gloomy weather. However, it was available in the lounge and dining rooms which allowed me both a pint whilst my wife was getting ready for dinner and some credit with her for not using the computer in bed!! Incidentally, the Coniston Brewery’s Bluebird Ale is heartily recommended!

Dinner menu, food and wine were all excellent and very much appreciated particularly as there was only one other party of four staying. Breakfast was included in our room rate and, again, was excellent and everyone could not have been more attentive and helpful.

For a terrific value for money stay in the Lake District, I would urge readers to try this establishment…I have no doubt that we will be back there and not to the other hotel that could have had my business in their group if not their hotel!

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel., and given such wonderful comments.
I have passed your lovely comments on to Melissa, who wishes to send you her thanks too.
We are working on being able to receive a better Wi=Fi connection in our lodge and hope that next time you visit we will have this issue sorted.
We look forward to welcoming you back to the Burn How

“Luxury and service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 November 2011

We stumbled across Burn How through the information centre and thank heavens we did. Everything was perfect the room was huge, bathroom was clean, fresh, new and stocked with exquisite cleansers and shampoo. The tea/coffee was always topped up with plentiful supply and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. The position was in easy walking distance to the Lake and the town centre. The restaurant was superb and breakfast was the best we have ever had. The only downside for us was trying to park a large car in a small space but we found this throughout the whole of the UK

Room Tip: Read all reviews and check all photos of rooms and facility.
