All in all, a very pleasant stay. I was here for three nights on business; started slightly negatively early Sunday evening when I arrived. Having carted my various bags and computer through to the reception, against a couple of fairly heavily sprung doors, I found a sign that directed me to the bar. Had to leave the bags on the floor, hoping they would be safe, and went outside to bar across the parking area. If only they had a sign outside the main entrance warning you that reception was unmanned, all would have been well; I could have left everything in the car, collected the key and then taken everything in.
Rooms were excellent - though twin bedded rather than a double. Good TV and controls; well-stocked tea/coffee and toiletries. Alarm clock, trouser press, hair dryer and iron. Minor glitch in that you can't easily hang a suit bag on the clothes rail, but hung that from back of door. Room locks, unusually, need deadlocking from inside or outside - they don't automatically lock. Could be a bit iffy if you forget... Lovely long deep bath and plenty of hot water - though the shower was more of a light spray. Room 5 slightly 'disturbed' by the creaking of the hinge on the corridor fire door, just outside. Not a big then - but the first time you wonder what the noise is..
First day breakfast was good; next two days was only OK - bacon a bit stringy. Sausage a bit strong taste, but that's probably just me... Only white bread on second two days, no brown. Annoyingly, the slightly grumpy person serving the second two days insisted I sat at a table for one, even though this put me, in an empty restaurant, right adjacent to someone else. When will they learn that guests' needs and comfort come before those of the establishment? Room to read and layout paper, not be sitting on top of other guests... Also, quite dim lighting, hard to read the paper! About 15 mins from Newcastle (under Lyme) town centre.
