“Not the best”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

The staff were nice but the room was shocking the bed was stained the room was really small the tv cable went out side through the window so didn't shut properly an to be honest dangerous the Walls were dirty an dents in them and the other wall looked like it had a damp problem in the past and they just painted over it and the tileing in the bathroom was shabby. It has been neglected for some time and not being maintained there was rubble and litter out side in big piles I will not stop here again it needs a complete make over and just looking after.

“OK- only if you want a cheap "make-do" stay”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 November 2011

Stayed once before - disappointed then as we had paid extra for an "executive room" which comprised only a manky dish of fruit and a bottle of cheap wine- rip off- Hotel is near to relatives, only reason for stay. Room this time was in need of update - shabby, no hairdryer - just a scribbled note blue-tacked over the plug "do not use" - i did use it as I was going out, and it worked? The bathroom was awful - smelled of boiled cabbage, with grimy bits on corners, handles and taps that meant only hasty wipe-over not cleaning. The view from the window was like a tip, as were views from all windows, Needs serious upgrade.... staff on reception helpful. Breakfast okay.

“Disappointed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2011

Visiting relatives, we were very disappointed with our 2 night stay and in fact we even went to the relatives for breakfast! The receptionist was friendly and helpful, but that said.... On the first evening there was a party of some kind which was very noisy and didn't make for a pleasant or relaxing environment. The bathroom was basic and cold, but the bed was comfortable. But we won't be going back.

“Sadly neglected”

Stayed here for just one night on a business trip. Our room was small - but ok for just one night - but the bathroom was incredibly dark and dimly lit: we couldn't have a shower before the evening meal as it was just too dark! There were no toiletries save for a shower cap and when requesting some we were presented with a large bar of soap.
Seems to be run by very small staff group - receptionist friendly, barman had to be tracked down each time we wanted a drink. It seems that Ramada will no longer own the Hotel from January but the receptionist appeared to have no idea who his new employer would be. Everything was tired and grubby and the whole place seemed to be in suspended animation waiting for what I sincerely hope will be a change for the better.
On a positive note the breakfast was well cooked and a good variety of choice. We dined in the indian Kavi Restaurant in the evening and it was very good. the staff were friendly and very attentive and the food was delicious. We also enjoyed being able to see the Chefs preparing the food. The restaurant was busy even tho' we ate early and it was a Tuesday evening: there were several parties if diners who were clearly locals rather than business people which I think is a good indicator of the quality of the menu.
However, we wouldn't stay here again as it all seemed a little grimy.

“Pay more and stay at the Holiday Inn!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 November 2011

Stayed at this hotel for 4 nights whilst working around Staffordshire.
Arrived late on the Sunday evening and was met by an empty reception desk, tried in vain to locate a member of staff and in the end ended up going into the kitchen where i found the night porter/receptionist sat reading a paper!
The room was pretty dire, the carpets were stained and the lighting was so dim in the bathroom that i had a shower in near darkness! Even having a decent shave in the dim light was a challenge!
The bed wasnt the most comfortable that i have ever slept in and even with the radiators turned off the room was so hot! thank god for the window that i could open! The room smelt musty and there were loads of flies in the room!
Breakfast was adequate, and the meal in the restaurant was pretty good value for money. The waiter was probably the friendliest person in the hotel.
The hotel has definaltley seen better days, as soon as you enter the car park it looks dank and miserable.
The hotel never seemed to be full, to be honest i would have chosen to stay in the Holiday Inn which is further along the road if i had known about it! I personally feel that this hotel is in financial trouble!

Room Tip: Choose a room at the Holiday Inn!!
