I was recently in Newcastle Under Lyme for business purposes and stayed at Clayhanger B&B for one night. The room was on the small side but perfectly adequate for two, tastefully decorated and had a hairdryer afixed to the wall. The bathroom was clean and again small, but for an othernight stay perfect.
Despite other reviews to the contrary, we found the owner most genial and communications prior to arriving were professional and accommodating. My one gripe would be that though the breakfast was delicious, it is only served between 7.30-8.30; extending those times by an hour would have been great! Having said that, the owner did allow us to check out slightly later than normal. Overall I would recommend this B&B for an inexpensive cosy stay in this area of the UK.

On being shown to our room (booked as a double) I was disappointed to see twinbeds pushed together, and mentioned this to the (male) owner, asking if this was really a double, which I'd booked. I was told that I could tell it was a double, since there were two beds, whereas the single rooms only had one. He appeared to think this was quite amusing.

The toilet seat in our room wasn't fixed properly, and wouldn't stay open.

However, the room was clean, the location OK, and the breakfasts acceptable.

I stayed at the clayhanger for a short break last week. What a delightful place. The rooms are tastefully decorated - I cant fault the staff nothing was to much trouble. The breakfast was spot on and to be honest the stay was what i would call value for money all round- Its was ideally situated for all the local attractions i was planning on visiting around the potteries with out the need to book one of the expensive city centre hotels which attract a premium price for nothing extra to what i received at the B&B than an extra shower cap or a chocolate on your pillow when you arrive. All in all a very nice stay and would definitely recommend.

my business partner and myself stayed here this week what a wonderfull place , spotless friendly verry very comfortable and excellent value for money .................may i just add the breakfast was scrumptious my mushrooms were delicious with local oatcakes yum yum.
