“Warm and Friendly”

We stayed here for a last minute arranged trip to Weymouth.
The location is wonderful, with the beach running directly in front of the hotel! Parking is a bit tricky but I understand they share some limited off road parking spaces with the hotel next door.
Had a warm welcome at reception where they also reminded us of the eating facilities offered within the hotel.
The room was ok. Little bit dated but perfectly comfortable. Spacious bathroom bit again just a little dated.
We did sleep well and breakfast was very nice. Buffet style serving but plenty of choice with hot and cold options.
Overall I would recommend this hotel for a one night stop off. We are in our early 30's and found ourselves to be the youngest customers during our stay by some margin!

Room Tip: f you have the chance to do ask for a room with a sea view.

“Good value for money II”

My wife and I unexpectedly found ourselves requiring accomodation in Weymouth for one night, in order to attend a family funeral. We stayed in a double room on the fourth floor for £45, which I thought was great value and with facilities just as good as any B&B or Inn charging more.

YES - the lift is small and you need to climb one flight of stairs to get to the fourth floor - but the staff did ask if this was OK when we booked.

YES - the hotel car parking is challenging, but only if you have a larger car such as an estate (as we have) or a 4x4, in my opinion.

BUT - we found all the staff courteous, the room was clean and warm, the full English breakfast from the buffet was great, and the waiting staff friendly and efficient ... and the low bar prices were, frankly, a revelation.

SO - keep an open mind in spite of all the naysayers' comments on this website, and everyone in our extended party was satisfied with the Prince Regent. This is a decent little hotel for its price bracket, and 'as advertised' on its website. Thank you for our stay, Weymouth is a beautiful town too, and I would like to come back some time in happier circumstances.

Room Tip: It looks like the value rooms on the fourth floor all have a seaviw without having to pay a premium...

“A fraught experience at the Hotel Prince Regent”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

My partner and I have just returned from a visit to this hotel as part of a dancing group.
Unfortunately, we decided to terminate our visit prematurely because we found the organisation in the dining room rigid and more than a little annoying.

At dinner on our first night,we were advised by our waitress that the table at which we were sitting was the one that we must use for the duration of our visit. This was disappointing, as it would prevent us from sitting at different tables and getting to know and socialise with other members of our party. After other members of our group complained about this arrangement, the management relented and we were advised that the following morning we could select a different table but, as the hotel had a system whereby they took guests' choices for the evening meal at breakfast, we must ensure that we sat at the same table in the evening.

The following morning we went down quite early for breakfast but found that it would not be possible for us to sit together, because there were only two single places available on tables some distance apart at the group's allocation of tables. This would have meant that my partner and I would have to sit separately for both breakfast and dinner, which we were reluctant to do.
There were many empty tables in other parts of the dining room so we asked if we could sit together somewhere else to which the answer was "no". We are a widely travelled couple with
considerable experience of hotels in the U.K. and abroad but had never experienced such inflexibility as this.
When it became clear that no one would budge on the situation we decided
to cut our losses and check out early. We were asked at reception why we were doing this.
We explained that we found their dining arrangements totally unacceptable. If we were hoping
for some attempt to resolve the problem we were to be disappointed. The receptionist simply replied "sorry, that is our system, have a nice journey home"
This sort of attitude, quite frankly, simply will not do. Small wonder seaside resort hotels are practically on life support if this is the way they treat guests.
Turning to other aspects - the car parking space at the back of the hotel is very limited. The entrance to the car park is through a very narrow gate and the interior has a number of loadbearing pillars which makes manoeuvering into the parking spaces very difficult. Other than this, there is parking at a sister hotel along the road, some street parking, and, we were
informed, some parking available at the nearby railway station (at a charge).

Their very small lift is something of an antique, with a trellis gate which irritatingly slams shut
just as you are trying to get your suitcases in and does not distinguish between luggage and the human body!!
In conclusion we would say that in these times of less money to spend, a high handed, complacent, and totally indifferent attitude can only result in guests' ensuring that they never return to such establishments. We can assure them that really good hotels do exist and they are the ones that deservedly do well.

As we like to end on a positive note - the bedroom was comfortable and the one meal we had was satisfactory.

Room Tip: With all the hassle we experienced - this is an area we never explored.
