We've been using PebbleBank for the last three summers, June 2011, June 2010, June 2009. I feel, reading some reviews I have to jump to its defence a bit! I'll start with a few minor issues, but these are minor really. We've always enjoyed staying at the site in a caravan with a view across to Portland (recommend caravans A6, A4 or A2 for best views). There was a discarded small BBQ outside our caravan on our arrival last time, (no problem though, ignore it), the hoover handle had a split in it which made hoovering the caravan a problem plus the hoover bag smelled - which made the rooms smell as you vacuumed them. However, we reported all of this to the front desk. The year before we had a TV remote with flat batteries, these were replaced - all minor! We stay as our couple with our dog, Ruby - we ALWAYS clean up after her and generally we've found the site to be clean. The views are gorgeous when the sun is out and we've always found the hired caravans section very quiet. A few things to bear in mind here - we always go at the end of June, outside of school holidays/real peak of summer. We've never camped or had a touring van so cannot comment on that - which is where a lot of the negative comments seem to be coming from? The hired caravans have always been fairly good, good water pressure in the shower plenty of room in the lounge area. And yes, you usually do have to open the windows the moment you get in as they can be a bit stuffy. You have to take your own bedding and towels and the double bed can be a bit pokey if you're used to a super-king like we have at home! The prices changes depending on when you stay in the year so value for money can only be compared to what you've paid. It was £305 (inc £20 for our dog) for us to stay in the last week of June 2011 - not the cheapest, but it's a site we love for its location, views of Portland and convenience to Weymouth Town Centre. Weymouth is about a £5 cab ride/10min drive away and the eastern far side of the beach allows dogs all year around. We just love Weymounth and found PebbleBank in the summer of 2009 after staying in a friend's house in Wkye Regis (just down the road). If you're self-sufficient with a "go out during the day, come back in the afternoon/evening" approach, you'll be fine. Thing is, it's very easy to give off when you're 'hiding' behind a (pretty much) annonymous site like this. Some people pick up on everything, some don't - as I said, we've had minor issues but most of which can be sorted. On the whole, I'll give it 3 out of 5 to be safe - perhaps a 4 if you get through without a problem. Can't comment on the bar, never been in, but it has sounded lively on a Saturday night with live events - people sounded like they were having a good time! Check in to the hired caravans is around 2 or 3pm from memory, checkout is 10am though - wish they'd raise that to midday perhaps - and you are requested to clean the caravan before you leave so keep things tidy as you stay to minimise faffing about on your final morning. All in all, not perfect but I do feel defensive of the site (a bit) because we love its location and peaceful surroundings. I'm 32, male, female partner is 39, two easy-going professionals who like a week on the coast (if that helps form an opinion of our review) - problem is you never meet the authors of the reviews so it's hard to get a grasp of their critique. If you met somebody who you thought was a bit "Oh, get over yourself for goodness sake" then their review might make more sense as to why it's written in the way it is? We don't feel we're like that, but we do feel we've written an honest review. Enjoy your stay if you go.
