“One Night - Business”

Stayed one night arriving late evening having driven from the Borders through the snow at Glenshee. Hotel was very warm and we were expected, check in quick and efficient with friendly receptionist.

Room was clean and adequate, en-suite had shower over bath and plenty of hot water. Bed comfortable. Room was very hot with no control valve on radiator, opening window not a real option as overlooked central courtyard with noisy cooler (?) running all night.

Very limited basic menu but food ok for money and quickly served, better value would have been to book b&b only, not dB&b as we did.

Breakfast was fine pleasantly served papers brought to us, request remembered from previous evening - well done.

Conclusion an historic basic Highland Hotel providing good value, but basic accommodation and food.

“Great food, great staff, building has... Character!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2012

I stayed here during the summer of 2011, as part of a family reunion / break. After getting over the initial shock on arrival of our visit coinciding with the highland games, we soon settled in.

Now, this is an OLD hotel, Queen Victoria stayed here for goodness sake, and this is reflected in the property. The room we were allocated was on the bijou side and was a bizarre shape, but the facilities were all there and the bed was very comfy. This is like a lot of older Scottish hotels, the original building has been added to a few time cover the years, but I think this just lends it character.

The food was served in an amazing dining room overlooking the hotels own private garden. The quality of the food was outstanding, and I would return for this alone in the future. Good, honest, fresh local produce, cooked really well. We were also made to feel at home but the staff who were attentive and really friendly, getting to know us by name.

On that note, my brother fell ill while we were staying (nothing to do with the hotel!) and the staff could not have done more for us. I think a hotel is made or broken on the quality of the staff and they are a credit to this hotel.

I'd definitely go back.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the original building, they are large and have good views!

“New year break.”

We really enjoyed our three day break at the hotel and the staff were very good and Andy and Denise were very helpfull and our room was very nice too the food was very good and we met some very nice people as well but there was one very rude and rather big lady that
tried to disrupt the other guests by complaining just about everything but i thought Andy
got the better of her. The only thing that did not work was the tv but who needs at tv on
hogmany.
John & Edna.
PS once again thanks to all the staff at huntly arms hotel.

“Faulty Towers”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

Room with a view was the view of the bins. Room was tired, shabby, in desperate need of overhaul and the bathroom was worse. Shower had plenty hot water, but was more like a trickling hose pipe. Small tv had no remote until a mini remote was delivered to room to put on our keyring! still only had 3 random channels. No room service for duration of stay, beds not made, bins not emptied etc and fresh towels only after telephoning reception. Breakfast had no cups, no glasses, no cutlery, oh yes and no tea in the tea! all served at a previously used table, with the dirty dishes pushed to one side. Cocktails couldn't be made from the cocktail menu and there was a strange ritual of moving the contents of the lounge bar into the dining room bar and then back again - for no apparent reason except to entertain us bewildered guests. On the big night itself some of the chefs banquet was actually and truly inedible! the "Traditional Scottish Ceildh" consisted of approx 10 dances and finished just after midnight - very dissappointing - why else were we there????? On the final night there was a DISCO!!!! you guessed - ultimate flop! But to end on a high, we had a really good time comparing notes and making friends with our fellow revellers. Our bed was clean and comfortable, The staff were friendly and helpful and the hotel was cosy throughout.

Room Tip: choose another hotel :)

“New Year Break”

Hotel is very tired and in need of extensive renovation but Denise and her staff worked tirelessly to ensure we enjoyed our 3 day break. Food was very good, plenty of selection available. Entertainment was average, but we met lovely people at the hotel and it helped make our break. Management company perhaps need to take a look at this hotel as it could be a gem on Deeside if some money was spent on updating/upgrading - don't blame the staff they did the best with what was available

Room Tip: Ask for a proper double as you may get allocated what can only be described as a large single
