“High Quality Accomodation”

We stayed at Broom Cotttage for 2 nights on an 'out' & 'return' trip to Scotland, so had chance to compare it to a lot of other B&Bs we used. The double bedroom we had was the nicest on the whole trip, with high quality fixtures & furniture & spacious ensuite bathroom. Breakfast also very good - can recommend the kippers after having 'Full Engish overload' at the end of the trip!
Gardening enthusiasts will also appreciate what Janet & Peter have created & the birds in the garden are a delight. We will probably return as it offers a great base for touring the Lake District.

“A Wonderful discovery”

We regularly stop off at Appleby, overnight, on our way to Scotland. What a wonderful discovery we made with Broom Cottage. The location was idylic and on arrival we were greeted on the doorstep by Peter. After being shown to our room we enjoyed tea, cake and a chat with Janet and Peter, they were most attentive hosts. Our double room was of good size, very comfortable with all the amenities together with those little extra touches that made it special. Views from the room were lovely and breakfast first rate with plenty of choice. We will certainly return.

“Home from Home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 August 2010

I enjoyed a short overnight stay at Broom Cottage to break up a long car journey. Whilst I wouldn't normally write a review for a ten hour stay somewhere, I was so impressed that it would be unfair not to let other people know about this place.

The cottage is conveniently situated. From the A66 its only about half a mile along the road to Long Marton and then at the end of a signposted lane on the right. So for a journey across the A66 it's absolutely ideal.

On booking, I had said to Peter (who runs the B&B with his wife Janet) that I wouldn't be able to arrive until very late (11pm) . However this was no problem whatsoever. Even more, the couple made me feel incredibly welcome on my arrival, providing me with coffee and delicious homemade cake and spent a good half hour talking with me despite my late arrival. Their hospitality was second to none.

The room was of a really good size, spotlessly clean, full of charm and with a great view of the countryside. There were all sorts of nice touches in the room, like a shelf full of books and the shower mat neatly tied up with ribbon in the en suite. You don't think about these kind of things if they're not there, but when they are you really notice them and it really shows how much Peter and Janet care about their guests. The bed was very comfortable and it was so quiet with the cottage being at the end of a lane.

In the morning, I was provided with a fantastic breakfast with loads of choice, including home made bread and hash browns.

Broom Cottage is just like a home from home and the friendliness of the owners really stood out. My only regret was that I could not stay longer but I would definitely return.

“Perfect, above expectation.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 August 2010

Every detail has been thought of. Perfectly clean rooms and bathrooms with lots of space, breakfast is amazing, friom the size to the choices and Janet and Peter are very special, warm, generous people. The house is lovely, the gardens and views too. Enjoyed the horse, cows, and many rabbits - real English counrty side. Nothing needs to be improved and nothing needs to be changed -PERFECT.

“Perfection exists at Broome Cottage!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 April 2010

A truly special, first class B&B near Appleby-in-Westmoreland (Cumbria) U.K. This is a wonderfully stone restored farmhouse next to quiet fields, with a view of the Pennines, and sheep grazing nearby.
Peter and Janet Cox have thought it all through: very comfortable rooms with amenities,
a rustic lounge with fireplace and games available; and a delightful variety of foods for breakfast ranging from the traditional full English to homemade porridge, vegetarian selections, and what really impressed: a grapefruit pre-cut with laser precision!
The rural lane connects to a rural road going by the Parish Church at Long Marton- well worth a visit, as is St. Lawrence in Appleby, only about 3 miles distant. Driving along the A road from Penrith, take the Appleby exit and follow the sign to B&B in Long Marton.
Once on Horticultural Lane, Broome Cottage is the last B&B on the lane, past the two
cow grids. One could stay in this idyllic spot quite a while. Highly recommended.
