“Avoid the hotel and restaurant, Spa is very nice”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

The simplest way to put this is that the Spa is lovely and the hotel for its cost is pretty poor. First impressions were good, the Hotel and Spa are lovely from the outside. There grounds are delightful and it is well positioned to get anywhere in the New Forest. We were shown to our room by the lovely receptionist and it was quite nice, the interior of the hotel is worn and the updates are cheaply done and not in keeping with the building which is beautiful.

The Spa itself is lovely and I'd recommend someone taking a day trip although there were a number of children there which might bother some people though not us. We had three treatments which were very pleasant before we had a swim, sauna and sat in the outside hot tub admiring the view.

What is the problem then? Well if anyone has watched 'the hotel' on channel 4 you'll know.

throughout the visit we could not get anyone to answer the phone, on one occasion I had to ring the external line to order breakfast (for which they tried to charge £5.10 until I refused). Before dinner the receptionist screamed at the maitre d from behind the desk until she realised he was serving me, only for them to have a heated discussion only metres away.

Dinner was included and there were three people waiting on around around 8 covers. None of the three knew a thing about the menu which was a odd selection of dishes. Annoyingly the tried to blag it and were hopelessly wrong. The two main male 'waiters' were terrible, while the sole female waiter was lovely but very nervous (presumably given her training from the other two).

Disaster followed disaster, the food was pretty ordinary, when we asked for 10 mins before they gave us the desert menu, they completely forgot! this was ridiculous given we were the only people left in the restaurant and we waited 30 mins before one of the three bothered to come back in and asked whether we were done!

In the morning the waitress who we did like smashed the plate while lifting off the plate cover, horrified she through it across the room only to disappear and re-emerge with the same food on different plates. Saying this she was clearly the junior staff member, very pleasant, hugely apologetic and just needs some training in the right environment.

At checkout we were over charged by around £150, it took about half an hour to sort out and 4-5 attempts. luckily it was the morning receptionist who again was nice and slightly embarrassed.

Given we spent over £500 for one night (albeit with 3 treatments) I expect an awful lot more from a hotel and by the end we just wanted to leave and couldn't be bothered to complain. The Spa saves this rating but for the amount we paid for the room and the food this was woefully below the standard we would expect.

Frustratingly, this place has real potential but needs considerable investment in the décor and particularly staff training

“spa day at Bath House Spa/New Park Manor”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

There were three of us who went for the day and all booked a treatment in the spa. Overall, we had a really lovley day and some aspects were excellent, i.e. the food and the treatments.

Main diasppointment was fthe lack of space inside the pool area, i.e. with three of us there was no room for us all to sit togther. As it was a very cold day, we could not sit outside.

We were shown round when we arrived but not informed of relaxation area. Lunch was lovely but not informed that fruit juice was not included.

On leaving, we gave some feedback to the person on reception, i.e. that we should have been informed about drinks not included and that the person showing us round was a bit rushed and did not tell us about relaxation room. She said this was a "training issue" but did not apoloigise to us. It would have made all the difference rather than leaving with a sense that we would not come back. I suggest she needs some training in customer service.

Thank you for your comments in regard to your spa day with us.

I am so pleased that your treatments, along with the quality of food, were excellent however I do apologise that
the customer service you received from our front of house staff didn’t reflect the same level of service.
This will be addressed with the team and is not our usual high standards that we strive to achieve.

In regard to space around the pool hall; we are currently looking at making improvements to Bath House Spa
and although we are limited with space around the pool, we are looking at introducing more areas to relax
within the spa area.

I hope that you will return to us soon.

ummm, where to start. Website is somewhat misleading; as the photos of the hotel/facilities look splendid and in reality are overdue for a much needed face lift. Food was pretty good (recommend the french toast). Staff were mostly friendly, although they are clearly understaffed -- as three to four employees were often seen literally running to and from during mealtimes. Unfortunately, they tout that bikes are available to rent but unfortunately had none left when we arrived (and I overheard the same story for another couple). Also disappointing was the childish lying of the concierge - who forgot to call our cab for our return to the train station - who then tried to cover it up by telling us the cabbie had a flat tire while en route to get us. Not only did she seem somewhat unharmed that we may miss our train, when asked if there was a hotel vehicle to quickly drop us (it's only a five minute drive) she said no. Luckily, we made it to the train -- with the cabbie who told us about Madam's little white lie! Definitely check what room you've booked. #15 is the smallest in the hotel and not worth the money. The spa was more or less relaxing. Best part is the outdoor hot tube. But beware of rowdy children who can potentially crush any ability to relax. All in all, there is potential but maybe you want to wait until they get their stuff figured out.

“Relaxing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

Had a spa day with my daughter between Xmas and new year as a present.
On arriving given medical questionnaire to fill in and free coffee and shown all the facilities and booked lunch which was not included in package and also a time for our cream tea which was included.
I just relaxed by poolside whilst my daughter used the gym till 11am for our full body massage which I really enjoyed and then taken to their relaxation room which was very restful.
We had our lunch and then after an appropriate time we used the foot spa and then swimming pool. Nice sized pool but a bit on the cold side.  By this time more people had arrived and also hotel guests.  We tried the Canadian hot tub for half an hour which is situated on outside terrace. Recommended. Champagne could be ordered extra cost.
On returning back into pool area the 5 loungers were being so no seating available. I had 2 more foot spa's so I could sit down whilst my daughter used the solarium and sauna.
We then showered and changed and went back to the reception/ cafe area for our scrumptious cream tea 2 scones each with cream and jam washed down with a pot of tea.
I really enjoyed the day and the only down side was lack of seating in pool area.
