“You get what you pay for :P”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

The whole place is tired and a little shabby, rooms were adequate, warm with fully working showers and almost working tv. We were treated to a karaoke on Saturday night, which was nothing short of noise. Food was pleasant, however it wouldn't be fair not to mention that several members of our party came down with suspected gastroenteritis during our stay. Breakfasts were excellent though. The poor staff seemed grossly overworked, often manning several positions simultaneously. All in all very interesting experience...although in fairness, we'll maybe spend a little more and try somewhere else next time.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I’m pleased that there were many aspects of your stay that you found favourable and can confirm that we are about to embark on the next phase of our investment programme that will see all rooms and public areas bought well up to date. It’s important to us and only fair that if you believe ‘several members of your party became ill’ after eating with us that you mention it prior to departing in order that the relevant checks can be made. I can assure others reading this that we have received no other complaints. I do hope that you will visit us again and see the difference in the hotel.

“Never Again”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

This hotel is in need of a huge makeover.

Our room was ok but on the ground floor and we never slept at all for traffic passing through.

Food was the worst ever, my "Fresh Leek and Potato Soup" was straight out of a packet and tasted like powder.
The meat in the roast dinner was out of a packet of cooked meat you can buy in any supermarket.

Potatoes came from a tin and veg was boiled to mush and lasagne was cooked so much it was hard and crispy.

Breakfast was ok with the usual cold table, however when it came to cooked food, the staff didnt have a clue. We ended up with someone elses plate and had so much fuss, when we did get ours it was cold and greasy.

We would like to apologise to the guests for any shortcomings they experience whilst staying at the Dreadnought Hotel.
I would also like to advise that this year we are going through refurbishment of our rooms and our public areas.
We have also last month employed a new and very experience Head Chef and can assure the guests that vast improvements are being made. Hope to see you again in the near future.
Regards
General Manager

“Disappointing return visit”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 December 2011

Visited the hotel for a weekend break with friends.Rooms vary dependent on location.Room 218 , a twin was recently decorated , very warm and pleasant with lovely outlook onto river and street.Next door 219 was a double. The matress badly needs changed as it dipped uncomfortably in the middle. Both rooms were clean, had tea and coffee making facilities and were adequate for a short stay. Evening dinner was disappointing. Choice and presentation was poor, service was erratic.Breakfast was even more of a disappointment. There was a large party the evening before and plus other guests dining room was busy at 9 ish, the waiting staff could not cope. There was no system about who served what tables and no one seemed to be in charge. We have been to the Dreadnought before and know what to expect but on this occasion we were disappointed .

Room Tip: front rooms have best views.

“You get what you pay for”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 November 2011

This is a wonderful old hotel that has so much character!! Unfortunately as is the case with so many older hotels, the money hasnt been spent over the years to maintain its grandeur, and therefore it is now in need of a serious overhall!!
For all the faults with the general need of decoration this hotel was generally clean, yes it could have been cleaner, but generally the room and bathroom were clean, so I wasnt bothered.
Like the title of my review says, you get what you pay for. Do not go there with Champagne taste and shandy budget!!

“A VERY TIRED HOTEL”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 November 2011

We stayed for one night and to be honest I am glad as I don't think I could have stayed for any longer. We stayed in this hotel 2 years ago and it was ok then but I would not rush back now. We got 5 free drinks each so that was ok but I thought there would be some entertainment on as it was saturday night but no. The food was a bit below average to say the least and when I said to the waitress at breakfast I would just have fried egg and bacon I thought I might have got more than one egg and one rasher of bacon but no. All in all, OK I suppose for one night but we wont be rushing back.
