If you are looking for somewhere to stay in the Callander area I can highly recommend Highland House Hotel.
My wife and myself along with 4 friends stayed for four nights and were really well looked after, the hotel was very clean and the rooms recently redecorated. The choice at breakfast was excellant, and although the bar was small it cataret for our needs.
Angela and Tom (Denis) were excellent "mine hosts", in fact I would go far as saying they would give hou the shirt of their backs.

We took a last minute decision to head up to Callander for a day trip as we love the area. After a busy day, especially with a 3 year old, we decided not to head home and treat ourselves to an overnight stay.

The room was perfect and just what we needed. The residents bar and Tom's patter was also excellent and a good night was has by all.

To finish it of the Scottish breakfast in the morning set us on our way with full tummies and a hunger for visiting Callander and the Highland House Hotel again in the near future,

we stayed here booked on the day and could only get a room with seperate wc.It was our wc across from our room but every time i went to use it the door had been unlocked and other guests had been using it.i was not happy at that.apart from that we had a very warm welcome from Tom and Angela.We were shown to our room and told of mealtimes etc.We found the room very clean and fresh with all we needed for our stay ,tea coffee milk etc.Bath robes towels soap and shower gel made a difference .We are going back this weekend 3/9/11 for a night and hope to find the same level of attentiveness.

Having booked this b&b in november well in advance for our August trip to scotland for a wedding we were most disappointed to arrive and be told we had actually been booked into a twin room and that they had no cot for us. Not great when you have two young children.
We were eventually given a cot for the baby and a mattress on the floor for our little boy. (both without bedding) It was certainly a squeeze and we did have to keep asking to get beds and bedding.
When we tried to argue the fact that we had been booked into the family room and this was not what we expected we were informed that the booking was made with the previous owners and that the new owners had only taken over in june. They felt that the contract was with the previous owners and not with the hotel so we stood no ground on that point. However no one made us aware of new owners taking over until we arrived. The new owners were polite and friendly but we felt sometimes hospitality was not there strong point.
We asked for an iron and although given one we were not given an ironing board! We had to make up beds for the children and had to keep requesting things a few times before they obliged.
On departure we were told there was no record of our deposit and as it had been paid to the previous owner they wanted to charge us again for it. Which we stood our ground and refused. We were told that we were under paying for the room as we had 4 people staying in the room. We were actually quoted that the children would be free again he disputed that even though we had email confirmation of this it was an agreement with the previous owner not him. We felt it unjust to be even thinking of charging for a three month old baby sleeping in a cot and a toddler sleeping on the floor.
We never got the wi fi to work. We also tried to have a shower late morning to get ready for the wedding but had no hot water and were never given enough towels for us all to shower instead we had to share wet towels.
On the plus side the breakfast was very nice although things were not always restocked.
I really think the new owners are lovely people but they need a lesson in running a b&b and hospitality.
I also think maybe that when they took over the business they should have looked through the bookings and rang everyone to confirm and check everything.
