My family of three vacationed in Scotland in the summer of 2005, starting in Edinburgh then going up into the Trossachs and the Highlands. One of our favorite places in all the lovely places we stayed was the Brook Linn House in Callender, which is run by Derek and Fiona House. The town of Callender is a charming small town that is the gateway into the Trossachs and Highlands, and has some great restaurants (The Callender Meadows is the BEST!)and a nice combination of "real life" and "tourist" stores. On a Saturday shopping day, we felt as if we were in a Masterpiece Theater set of a small, prosperous village in Scotland. Brook Linn sits at one end of the town up a slight hill and is a lovely manor house built in the 19th century by a wool merchant. Its setting is pastoral yet it is just minutes from town and all roads leading to a day's hiking/driving adventure. Derek and Fiona have decorated the rooms to create a charming 19th century ambience while offering the comfort and ease of 21st century plumbing and facilities! They are warm and conversational hosts, who serve a delicious breakfast offering several choices. They also have a dog who is allowed to do moderate roaming on the main floor among the guests coming and going,which adds a sense of "home" to this place. We would go back to Brook Linn and Callender in a minute, only next time we'd stay much longer.

Brook Linn is a wonderful find. Lovely home, tastefully decorated with outstanding views. House is on a hill and private but very close to town. It is relaxing to wander the well kept gardens. A very good value.
