On a recent trip to Devizes to visit my family, My partner & I decided to drive up in the evening so as to give us a full day with my daughters & grandshildren. At the last minute we decided to book a hotel as close to Devizes as possible.
Having stayed at most of the hotels in Devizes before, & not being particularly impressed, we set our sights to an area no more than 30 minutes drive & the Best Western Chippenham caught our eye.
Without even seeing the room, we felt that the price was pretty reasonable. When we arrived, quite late in the evening, the service was courteous & efficient. The room we had was in an annex to the old coaching house, and finished to a good standard & equipped comfortably, with the usual facilities, including a good quality flat screen TV. The room was clean, the en-suite bathroom clean and well appointed and the rooms all warm and cosy. As the room was in an annex, it made sure for a peaceful night sleep, even though there was a party with a disco on in the function rooms, which we just could not hear from our room!
Breakfast was included in the price and was a good quality English, plus cerials, toast, tea or coffee etc, all included in our bed & breakfast rate. Service was friendly and efficient.
Overall this was a very pleasant stay, and whilst it is not a 5 star super hotel, it really is a nice surprise to find in Chippenham. The car park at the rear of the Hotel is a little tricky to get to, if you don't have a Sat-Nav or know the local roads, and the walk from the carpark to reception is a little way, so I recommend that leave your bags in the car until you get your room. Access to the annex requires a walk across a courtyard which is a little chilly in the winter! My only regret is that I forgot to take my swimming trunks to take advantage of the indoor pool.
We would certainly stay at this hotel again in the future, and would recommend it to friends visiting the west country, as it is ideally placed for trips to the numerous local historic sites, including a short trip up the road to Bath.
