“Great Fosters, Fantastic Lunch in the Oak Room”

10-02-12- Just enjoyed a fabulous lunch in the Oak Room at Great Fosters Hotel.
The food was delicious and the service was excellent.
Johnathan, the restuarant manager was superb. A knowledgable and attentive host, ensuring all our needs were met, including an after dinner coffee, by the fire, in the hotel bar!
It was a birthday treat from my wife so she was, having never been there before, thoroughly delighted.
A big thank you to all the staff but espiecially Jonathan...brilliant.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on your recent visit to the hotel for lunch.

I was delighted you and your wife enjoyed her birthday celebration and have passed on your kind words to Jonathan and his team.

We look forward to welcoming you both back to Great Fosters.

“Lovely place”

We stayed here for one night for a romantic break. The room was lovely (we stayed in a coach house room) and spacious with iPod dock and 2 flat screen TV's. It is a very short walk to the main house. The grounds are lovely however there is some noise from the nearby M25.

The main house is like a museum. It is gorgeous with stunning carved ceilings and wood panelled walls. We sat by the huge main fire and drank several reasonably priced beers

Can't comment on the restaurant as we just ate from the bar menu which was OK. There is an excellent selection of beer & spirits though.

It is worth shopping around for a good deal if you are on a budget as it is an expensive place. Although it is unique.

“A fantastic relaxed stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

I have just returned from an overnight stay at Great Fosters with my girlfriend. What a wonderful place. We have stayed at numerous 'quality' hotels on overnight breaks previously and this rates with the best of them!
Upon our arrival the service was fantastic ( thats everyone from reception to bar and waiting staff) and the main building had a grand feel to the place and was made cosy by the roaring log fires. We stayed in the Cloisters ( annex building) and our room was very modern but in keeping with the main building. The room was clean and of high quality and included luxury molten brown toiletries, robes and slippers..... and what a fantastic shower!

We stayed on a travelzoo offer and enjoyed a lovely relaxed afternoon tea and then strolled around the wonderful grounds. Albeit a lovely wintery setting it would be great to see this place on a summers day!

Our evening meal in the Oak room was superb with wonderful service. Steve the sommelier helped us choose a wine to go with our meal. What was nice to see is that he didnt pick the most expensive one on the list but chose something that genuinely went well with our food choice...makes a change! :0) Breakfast again was lovely and again the service when we left was great. I told the staff at the reception this as I checked out....nice to let people know how good they are!

All in all this is a wonderful place. The only concern would have been the price without the offer we had but that aside we highly recommend you try this hotel!! Enjoy!!

Room Tip: Depends on your budget...The main building has the historic rooms which are more expensive but the r...

“A Real Romantic Haven, we can't wait to return !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

We were treated to a wonderful Christmas gift by way of a nights stay at Great Fosters by my parents as soon as we walked through the tiny historical door we were greeted by roaring fires and welcoming staff, definitely the warmest welcome we have ever experienced at a hotel.
We were offerred an upgrade to the Queen Anne suite which was amazing, a real step back in time with wonderful views over the stunning gardens.

We enjoyed the best cream tea ever by the fire and spent the afternoon walking the calories off in the wonderful grounds with lakes and streams, the weather was bitterly cold so on our return we couldn't resist a nice glass of wine by the fire!

The dinner in the Oak room was of the highest standard as were the waiting staff, we had a wondeful evening and the bed was so comfortable and cosy.

The breakfast was excellent, we very reluctantly checked out , we really cannot wait to return it was 5* +++++ I even left an item of clothing in my room and it was posted to me the next day, faultless.

Keep up the good work GF Manager you run an amazing hotel.

Room Tip: To experience the real charm it is worth paying for a historic room.

“enjoyable stay in a lovely historical building”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

Stayed here for one night on a travelzoo offer. The building is very historical and it was lovely to relax by one of their many open fires as outside it was very cold and snowy. Staff were exceptionally friendly and professional. We had a cream tea in the afternoon of our arrival which was delicious lovely choice of teas and freshly baked scones. Dinner in the Oak room was wonderful. Portions are not huge but what you get is of excellent quality and we certainly did not leave feeling hungry. The cheese board was the best I have seen outside of France and you were able to have a taste of whatever you fancied so no shortage there. Breakfast was also excellent. We stayed in a room in the cloisters which was very nice but the heating was not as efficient as I would have liked but that may of been due to the extremely cold weather we were experiencing at the time. Also if you are staying in the cloisters you need to walk outside to get to the main hotel not good in inclement weather next time I would opt to perhaps stay in the main house. Would like to revisit the hotel in the spring or summer to be able to appreciate the wonderful grounds and gardens. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and will certainly be back.

Room Tip: cloister rooms more modern and probably good in summer but main house rooms more historical closer t...

Thank you for taking the time to write a review.

I was pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us last weekend, despite the exceptionally cold weather and we look forward to welcoming you back again when the weather has warmed up! You are absolutely right that our gardens are beautiful in the Spring and Summer and I hope that you will have more of an opportunity to enjoy them later in the year.
