“Perfect For The Sage”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

We had booked tickets for a concert at The Sage and chose The Hilton for its proximity to the venue. We had started our journey north from Peterborough early due to bad weather, but made good time and arrived early at The Hilton. We hadn't expected our room to be available and were really just hoping that we could leave our bags whilst we went shopping. Not only was our room available but we were offered an upgrade to an Executive room on the 5th floor. It was a spacious well equipped room with all the extras that add to a hotel experience. The only shame was that it was inward facing and didn't have a view of the Tyne. We didn't eat in the hotel so I can't comment on the food but I did use the gym and spa and both were very good.
There is an underground car park which was £9 for our 1 night stay.
We would definitely consider The Hilton on our next trip to the Toon.

Room Tip: Try for an executive room, river facing.

“Fantastic views shame about the lack lustre rooms .....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

Arrived at the Hilton, Gateshead and the reception area was stunning and staff helpful & friendly. Our room was 145 with a fantastic view no dressing gowns/slippers though!
We upgraded to the executive offer and this meant we had a complimentary non alcoholic drinks and nibbles while we watched the rugby with another couple. Unfortunately 10 minutes before the end of the game the waitress came and turned the television off and informed us abrubtly we could not watch sport! It clearly states on the sign outside of the room.. " we offer a range of television and radio channels." We were sat quietly around the corner and the tele was on low volume. Very rude! We used the gym, pool, jaccuzzi, steam and sauna. Fantastic though the changing rooms were shabby and dirty with lots of towels strewn everywhere and a paper signs on the doors male/female - does not cost much to make professional signs! Popped to the executive lounge for a drink before our table was booked for dinner only to find seagulls emptying the fridges of alcohol! Its complimentary to all that have paid the extra not for chavs to take, take take! breakfast... fantastic with lots of bits to choose from. Not keen on the fight tkaing place in reception and the security guard did not seem bothered! Parking states it is £16 for 2 night stay. We managed to pay £18 even though we were only there 1.5 days??? Overall nice hotel, most staff very helpful and friendly, executive idea good if controlled, just please sort the rooms out! Fab view but mattress and bed too small and uncomfortable (kingsize beds in all premier inns!) and get rid of the cracked tiles and dirty grout in the bathroom and shower curtains just plain disgusting. Take a leaf out of the mecure hotels for decent bathrooms. P.s. Newcastle is a fantastic place, lovely people, Will def visit again just hope the Hilton take a look at the reviews and take note of people's views.

Room Tip: Ask for a river view room... fab views

“Excellent Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

Was a bit apprehensive that the staff would be OTT with the posh act and that we may feel uncomfortable - but all I can say is the service was efficient, obliging and nothing was too much trouble, the Executive rooms we stopped in on the 5th floor (Rooms 510 & 512) were well laid out, spotless and made the stay totally relaxing, would I stay again - yes.
Breakfast was a buffet type help yourself, with the only complaint of no mushrooms available but the quality of food was first class.

“80's chic, but now shabby and tired!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012 via mobile

This hotel would have been top notch in the past but has failed to modernise at all. My door would not lock and other things were hanging from the door by 1 screw. Bathroom damp smelling and tired with a creased shower curtain you wouldn't expect it in a cheap B&B.
Antiquated, noisy heating system. Breakfast mass cooked and cold with slow service. No free Wi-Fi anywhere in the hotel either.
They're are much better, cheaper options out there these days. Come on Hilton, you can't trade on your outdated reputation for ever!

“Excellent hotel experience while on business trip, thanks to great staff”

I stayed for 2 nights and had a very quiet spacious room, entry level room.
No noise even though, he room was not far from the lifts and room was at the front of hotel. Bed was perfect and I am fussy.

I had an initial problem with the room temp and the engineer was prompt, wonderfully efficient and he couldn't do enough to resolve my problem.

The staff at the business centre were very helpful.

The night porter prepared a packed breakfast for me as I had a very early checkout, nice touch!

No complaint at all
