“Worst ever!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 November 2010

As the other reviewers have already said, this place is awful! There is more gaffa tape on the corridor carpet than on most rock gigs. I finally settled on my third room as the first two were awful - noisy, worktop peeling apart, cold, windows wouldn't shut - I could go on but I think you get the drift. The only saving grace was the extremely pleasant and patient receptionist who deserved to be working in a far better place than this.

Avoid at all costs!

“A great place NOT to stay”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2010

We spent two nights here in November 2010 so we could attend a family wedding. The place is clearly somewhere mainly used by p*ssheads to stay when going into Newcastle or Sunderland and not good for much else because the only way you will get a decent night's sleep is if you're sedated or drunk.

First the carpark is full of potholes and full of litter. Also the room we were in looked like it had been partyied in and hard - broken light shades, holes replastered in walls, stained carpets, etc. Although the night staff we met were great and tried to do their best the hotel ruined our visit. If you absolutely have to stay make sure ou are NOT anywhere near the entrance or front of the hotel as the noise from drunk people coming in all night kept us up between 1.30 and 5.30! so that we were exhausted at the wedding having not slept much.

When we tried to complain to reception in the morning all we got was a angry and rude receptionist telling us the hotel was full. We asked to speak to the Manager but the receptionist claime he wasn't in at the weekend and that she didn't have his number. We asked for the headoffice number and she apparently didn't have that either. Only when we got fed up with her excuses and threatened to put in a written complaint did the receptionist grudgingly agree to move us but not until she angryly complained at the top of her voice that we were being unreasonable. So apparently it's unreasonable to complain about a sleepless night and politely ask to be moved.

Having got back and checked on Google there seems to be no end of complaints about Traveledge not caring about their customers.

One last thing, if you're planning on arriving after nine and getting something to eat be prepared for an 8 mile round trip to find anything other than McDonalds.

“will never stay at this hotel again”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 October 2010

To be fair we stayed 2 nights and then returned for another night so we had 2 different rooms. I understand as a traveller you can have a bad experience but it may not be representative of the hotel so we gave it another shot. The return night was just as bad. The room was filthy. The sheets in the first room had holes in them. We had 3 in a room and only 1 set of towels. The dirt around the edge of the walls along the carpet was terrible. This was in both rooms. We stayed at a competitor chain in Harrogate for 2 nights and it was spotless. There is no excuse for poor cleaning. I realize this is a bare bones hotel but I still expect cleanliness.

“Awful place”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 November 2005

The hotel was clean and that's the only compliment I can pay it. This was one of the noisiest hotels we have ever stayed in. If you like cheap flat pack furniture, a breakfast that can only be described as take away and sleepless nights - then this is the place for you!
