“Wonderful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

I had booked here as as a 1st wedding anniversary suprise for my wife. We arrived early and were upgraded to an executive suite which was a lovely gesture. Check in was easy and the receptioinist was helpful and friendly. The location is perfect for shopping with the Metrocentre just over the road but therefore your only views in the hotel are of shops-a minor point really when compared to the positives!!
Whilst out in the afternoon on our return we found a car had been put in our room, it was a card from all the staff wishing us congratulations on our anniversary, something which my wife that wonderful and has kept the card. I cannot thank all the staff enough and must recommend this hotel to everybody. I will most definatley be stopping here again very soon.
The beds are the best I have ever slept in and it was a real struggle to get up for my breakfast.
Breakfast was easy and no hassle and as you would expect a fine selection and an excellent cooked breakfast. Again all the staff were wonderful, cheerful credit to their company!!
We cannot wait to return.

Room Tip: Upgrade for £30 to a nExcecutive which are higher up with added benefits. Theme rooms are available...

“Excellent weekend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

We had a lovely weekend at this hotel. The rooms are very spacious, clean and comfortable, with a really good sized bathroom. We asked for a room on a high floor and our request had been noted and confirmed when we checked in. All the staff were very pleasant and courteous. Breakfast was excellent; there was no wait for a table despite a notice in the lift saying that it was a busy weekend and there may be a wait. Our daughter, who lives in Gateshead, joined us for breakfast and when we went to pay, they said there would be no charge for her breakfast, which was a lovely gesture. We will definitely be making it our base when we go up to visit her again.

“Unbeatable for Business/Short Stays”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

I have used this hotel for some years, mainly for business stays. It represents Marriott at their best, providing pretty spacious, well equipped bedrooms in a pleasant modern hotel with all the facilities one would expect, and with staff who are unfailingly helpful and friendly.
The food in the restaurant is very good, nothing in the Michelin Star level but that is not what this hotel is about. You get a good range of dishes, cooked well and presented nicely, and occasionally some dishes with local connotations......their Cullen Skink is extremely good!
The hotel is well out of Newcastle so, although there is plentiful public transport, both train and bus, at the adjacent Metro Centre, which must still be one of the largest shopping malls in Europe, the hotel is used more by people who have their own transport.
I have given the hotel 5 stars because at its own level, you aren't going to find anything better.

Room Tip: It doesn't matter - they all have an interesting outlook.

“Superb hotel, staff and price”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

We searched on trevago for a good deal and got a one night stay including breakfast at the Marriott. We wanted to visit the Metro centre and thought it would be good to go back to a hotel and chill out rather than drive home (2.5 hours drive).
We arrived early 10.30 am and just thought we'd check that everything was ok with our booking. We were told the room was ready and we could check in there and then (fantastic, official check in time was 3.00 pm).
It was my partners birthday on the Sunday so I asked the reception staff if they were able to assist with blowing up of balloons etc. They just asked me to hand over anything thing I wanted them to do and whilst we were out shopping they would sort the room out.
On our return some 8 shopped out hours later, the room had all the banners up, balloons blown up and the cake with the candles popped on .... how wonderful!
All the staff that we encounted were very helpful, cheerful.
The room was gorgeous, beautifully decorated, comfortable bed, sofa, chair. Everything you could wish for, clean, tidy .... just superb. We look around the leisure club .... but just didn't get time to use it even though it was open until 11.00 pm
Breakfast was buffet style and there was so much choice .... all the usual bits and bobs and some added extras, cold meats, cheeses, pastries, bread, toast, fruits, cereals, full cooked breakfast .... service was excellent
We did have a meal in the restaurant on the Saturday evening, superb food and service, the only disappointment was that the prices were hotel prices which you would expect, I would have liked to order the main course and it be served with potato, salad, fries or whatever but unfortunately they were additional ie if you ordered the 15 year old old spot pork chop for £15 that's exactly what you got .... chips were £3 plus a portion .... it could get very expensive but the quality was just fantastic ...
Will definately return.

Room Tip: we were in 418 ..... it was great
