“A lovely highland hotel with a very warm welcome!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 February 2011

We booked last minute and got the family room which is ideal as the twin bedded kids room was off the kingsize main room. Beds were very comfortable and cosy and the rooms were tastefully decorated.

When we arrived the host ws very welcoming but immediately stated that there was a problem and the heating had broken down. If we wanted, he had checked out another hotel which could put us up. However he had put mobile heaters in our room and it was perfecty fine. Once we saw how cosy they were we didn't want to say anywhere else. He also offered us a very good discount because of this.

We were the only guests and had a lovely meal. Adults had soup and haggis followed by two steaks which were from the local butcher and delicious. Kids had meatballs and spagetti and pizza which was polished off with no complaints. Adults then had sticky toffee pudding and icecream which was all homemade and mouthwatering. Son had the chocolate fudge cake and said it was yummy.

We then had our coffee and tea in the guest lounge in front of a roaring fire whilst the kids played dominoes and then helped the owner set up for breakfast (staying in a hotel is a luxurious novelty for them). After tucking the kids up we took a whisky off to bed and had a fabulous sleep.

Breakfast was wonderfully delicious with the bacon and sausages again from the local butcher. Plenty toast, real coffee.

It was a real shame that this hotel is so quiet for this time of year. Grantown is a quiet Highland town but a good base for sightseeing and close to both Aviemore and the Lecht ski resorts. We skied at the Lecht on the Sunday and arrived refreshed with full tums. The weather was a bit grim at the Lecht (strong winds and poor visibility) but a great resort to get the kids started and we would definitely return.

I would recommend this hotel. The owner couldn't have been more welcoming and accommodating. The place made our whole weekend.

“A little Gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2010

The Ravenscourt House Hotel is a wonderful place to stay. The rooms are spacious, exceptionally clean and the bed very comfortable. We found the owners to be friendly and attentive to our needs. The hotel has two reception rooms which are both very invited after a busy day out and about. The breakfast was superb.

The hotel was an excellent base for our trip as it was in easy reach of woods and Findhorn Bay where we went birdwatching. From Findhorn Bay we witnessed a spectacular display of Gannet diving into the water and there were seals a plenty. If you enjoy sea duck then this is the place to see Guillemots, Red-throated Divers and Common Scoters to name a few.

“Service to be added as an extra.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 August 2010

The hotel is in a very pleasant, quiet street and has an appealing aspect, including 'ruined' greek columns.
On arrival we had to wait for an unacceptable time after ringing bells to bring someone to reception. We accept that this is a small hotel but quicker service would be appreciated and coupled with a warmer welcome would make for a better first impression.
The room was pleasant, very clean, with reasonable facilities although having the wash-basin in the corner of the bedroom was a trifle unexpected.
After a walk around the delightful town of Grantown-on-Spey we returned to the hotel. Seeing another couple in the bar we thought a drink would be a good idea. I popped into the bar and wasn't surprised to see no staff there due to the size of the hotel. I went back into reception and rang the bells, after a few minutes no-one had arrived. The couple asked if I had seen the barman and then offered to go and get him. I rang the bells again, no reply again, so we retired drinkless.
After a very comfortable night and a super shower we went down for breakfast. On entering the dining room we could see three tables with guests at various stages of breakfast and about six empty tables. A waitress came into the room, delivered to one of the tables and ignored us. This happened twice more without even an acknowledgement that we were there.
By this time, I had rung the bells in reception. Eventually the waitress and a gentleman I took to be the owner arrived. I said to the chap that I was unhappy at having waited over ten minutes and at being ignored by staff. He did not seem very interested and told us that we shoud just "sit anywhere". My wife pulled the chair out from a table and was instantly told " Not there!. That table is set for dinner!" At that point I asked for our bill to be prepared and we packed and left. At no time were we offered any explanation or apology for the disgraceful level of service.
In tha main street of Grantown there are at least three hotels which have closed down - if this is an indication of the service in the town, I am not surprised.
