“Dinner at Muckrach Lodge”

My wife and I took my brother and his wife for birthday dinner ,nice welcome, shown into lounge with open fire, thought this is going to be good.
Well we were shown into a cold dark dining room, and waited for our meal, the only good bits being the service, and the pleasant staff, the meal itself was in a word miniscule.
It would appear there is a shortage of vegetables in Grantown,to be served two tiny roast potatoes, smaller than golfballs and a teaspoon of greens is a disgrace, its a great shame because the meal was well cooked and presented.
To sum up I have never paid so much for so little.

“Wedding at Muckrack Lodge”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2011

Our son and daughter-in-law held their marriage at the hotel on December 3rd 2011,which was a wonderful occasion in every way. The setting was perfect, with a warm and friendly atmosphere in the hotel. Andy and Rebecca need praise for the way we were looked after throughout the day, night and the following morning, with a constant supply of fantastic food, apart from the delicious wedding breakfast. I would recommend Muckrack Lodge to anyone looking for a venue for a special occasion of any sort and I say thank you again Andy and Rebecca for helping to make our visit so memorable. Doreen Gill

“Wedding at Muckrach Lodge”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 December 2011

If you want a small intimate wedding, then look no further,,,this is the place to book. We had our wedding here on 3rd Dec 2011. You are surrounded by stunning views of the Cairngorms, this traditional stone built 10 bedroom lodge supplied the whole package, ranging from uber friendly staff, outstanding quality of food. At a fantastically reasonable rate.

We were allowed to hire the whole lodge for 24hrs exclusive use, which made our wedding more personal and perfect.

The owners Andy and Rebecca were the perfect hosts. Dogs were also allowed in the lodge which was extremely helpful to us as it meant our bulldog was able to be there to share our day.

The whole day was faultless, from the canapes to the kids table. We paid £6,300 and this included morning buffet, canapes, 6 course wedding breakfast, champagne, wine, evening buffet, exclusive use for our guests and much much more.

The overal experience was amazing.
Go and try the food in the reastaurant you will be blown away.

The Muckrach experience is a two way street, and this review is proof that when the customer understands us, and we understand the customer, it's a very fine street to be on. We are delighted this couple chose Muckrach as the place to embark on their married life - it's the perfect place for intimate gatherings of up to 30 or 40 people. We enjoyed working with them to create their special day, and we all felt proud and satisfied that they left at the end of it smiling and happy.
We work hard to look after all our guests, whether it's a couple or a couple of dozen. As other reviews show, we don't always get it right, and sometimes the customer doesn't get us. In this case tho' everything was spot on! Phew!

“We spent a lovely honeymoon night here”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 November 2011

We stayed one night here as a mini honeymoon. The hotel is exactly what we hoped for, we wanted somewhere very Scottish and we got it. Beautiful historic building, highland cows in the field, crackling fire to drink your evening drinks by. Yes, its a bit quirky, the colour schemes are a bit mismatched but it all adds to its charm.
We surprised the hotel by arriving 3 hours early but they received us politely and showed us two rooms to choose from. I liked one which was a bit chilly but we headed out to aviemore for an hour or two and by the time we came back they had popped some heaters in the room and it was lovely and warm.
As it turned out we were the only guests and had the undivided attention of the waiter who made sure we had drinks and nibbles whilst we enjoyed sitting by the fire.
We had a wonderful dinner. The dining room is lovely, crisp, white table linen, the fire was lit in here too. I was pleasantly surprised at the menu, a nice range to choose from despite being the only guests. The meals were substantial but I still managed three courses, delicious pudding and a lovely bottle of wine.
Breakfast was great, I had the full English and was only slightly disappointed that the local sausages mentioned on the menu weren't on my plate as they sounded lovely but I had more than enough to eat. On top of the cooked breakfast there was a choice of juices, cereal and croissants. Again, all this just for us! Now that is service in anyone's book.
All in all we had a lovely stay, we were treated well, ate well and enjoyed our time at the Muckrach.

Thank you so much for posting this. The staff and I get a real kick out of knowing our efforts are appreciated! Do come back, and I'll make sure your breakfast is loaded with our locally made butcher's sausages!

“Disappointing after good first impression”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2011

We arrived on a glorious September morning and this place looked lovely. Reviewed the various menus on display (al a carte and lighter bar meals) and made a reservation for dinner. Returned late afternoon and checked in to be shown to our room which transpired to be slightly separate fom the main building and suitable for disabled visitors. Slightly disappointed as the bed on the ground floor was not suitable for adults - it was a pull out bed and far too small and soft for average sized adults. The accomodation was, however, spacious and clean. Drinks before dinner in the bar turned out to be hugely overpriced - with flat tonic and lemon rather than lime. We were offered 3 different menus to chose from although when ordering were advised that several dishes were unavailable. Our meal was ok - nothing special. Chaos appeared to be reigning in the kitchen as other tables orders went astray (although the restaurant was by no means busy). Slept ok although had to have a rather than a shower in the morning as the electric shower gave out only a trckle if water. Not reallyvwhat you expect for this price for a room. Breakfast was not great. No porridge available although it was described as a speciality and no sausages. My 8 year old son observed that the black pudding
was totally overcooked. Worst bit was that when I asked to speak with the owner when checking out I was told that I would have to wait until he had finished cooking breakfast for all the other guests until he would come out to speak to me! Turned out to be true. By that time I was really annoyed! So I left very disgruntled. It's a shame as the location is wonderful but the hotel is totally overpriced for what it's offering - more B&B than country house in terms of standards. Very young staff front of house and the owner apparently not too fussed if clients leave unsatisfied. Won't go back and won't recommend. I fully expect a defensive retort to this post as have appeared on the others comments!!
